OMG, yes. Rice is one of the best feeders to medical school there is. And if they were offering significant aid over Stanford would take it in a heartbeat before dealing with the costs of medical school.

DP, and I totally get this decision. I loved the intellectual atmosphere of UChicago. I got accepted back in the day and my parents made me go to a higher ranked school and I still am kind of ticked off about that because it should have been my decision.
Haha, I get this too. I passed up UChicago 25+ years ago and I still think about it sometimes. I also passed up UChicago law too, but don't regret that choice as much.
Thrilled that DC '26 is applying.
I also passed over U of C undergrad and law. But the U of C then is not the same as the U of C now.

I had a friend in HS (now in his 50s) who turned down Princeton for Chicago back in the day. Thought Princeton was too much of a party school. Now a STEM PhD.
