I agree. None of my friends are particular Buffett fans, but we knew we wanted to stay in or near Hollywood, FL, because of proximity to another friend we were visiting. So we priced everything out and this is where we ended up. It was “themed” for sure, but basically the theme is “relax,” “have fun,” “vacation,” so…

We’ve stayed here twice and had a great time. You can’t beat the location, and the resort itself is quite nice. The pools are perfect, there is poolside drink and food, the ocean right there, it’s actually one of our favorite quick getaways.

Margaritaville is a place for people whose ideal vacation is eating the same Sysco cheeseburgers and drinking the same Corona Light they do at home, but somewhere slightly warmer, and with a pool that goes in the ground instead of above it.

Pretty much. It's for people who would live in The Villages.

This. I like Jimmy Buffett, and I'm in the right age range, but these resorts and things are for heavy drinkers and partiers who are 50+.

Don't know the cruise ships. Many of the hotels are in good locations and are nice. Agree it is all about sun, laid back, and drinking. I do not agree with the 50+. At the beach hotels mostly 20 somethings with older folks mixed in. It is a middle America - middle class with some money to spend vibe.

You hit it on the nail with the bolded above.

We have friends that bought in a Margaritaville
development in Florida. It’s cramped living in a resort themed community that is a scaled down version of the Villages. With “Margaritaville / island” decor and vibe. Curious to see what the development looks like in 5, 10 and 20 years. Understand the HOA fees are high to maintain the vibe. Looks like a fun place, just not sure I’d want to live there

Like one of these?

My son just went and it was inexpensive and pretty amazing from what he told me.

He’s late 20’s. Went with his girlfriend and another couple.

I will only state this anonymously because I am a Millennial snob, but I seriously considered the NYC Margaritaville because it has a pool and can be reasonably priced (for NY anyway).

I did not book it. But I would, and I’d fully embrace the Jimmy Buffet cheesiness.

It was a great deal and came with access to all of the Wyndham facilities. The room was much nicer the hotel and it had a small kitchenette, a buffet blender etc., It was modern, bright and clean with a comfy bed.

Parking was free and there was no resort fee and it was less expensive. The room was much nicer room with a small kitchen (cooktop, microwave, sink and fridge. I’m not a drinker or partier but I would choose it any day over the Wyndham. It’s a great location for families staying in Rio Mar.

Which site do you use for this? I've looked into it before, but always worried about getting a dud resort.

Not PP but we’ve used Redweek to buy Marriot time share weeks at several very nice Marriott properties (Hawaii, Aruba, Hilton head). The only real downside is that there is basically no cancellation — so you have to be pretty darn sure you’ll use it. I even got some Marriott points for the week we stayed.

Lots of folks are fans of this particular brand of kitsch.

+1
Come on, OP. Do you wonder the same thing about Disneyworld fans? Or visiting-sports-stadiums fans? Or national parks fans? Different people have fun with different things.

I'll come to the defense of the OP because I've asked myself the same question. Your examples are more well known. The overwhelming majority know what to expect from Disney, sports, or national parks. I know Jimmy Buffet exists as a musician but I have no clue why he would have travel destinations named after him and who it would attract. Especially when there aren't other musicians with something similar.

They advertise heavily on Wheel of Fortune. That should tell you something.

We went to a great resort in Costa Rica that was recommended on this forum that used to advertise heavily on Wheel. (My kids were so excited when they saw it on TV.). Si Como No.

Margaritaville appeals to people who like beaches and cruise vacations. I haven't stayed at one but happened to eat at one in the Bahamas. The salad was on point and the chicken strips were insanely good.

I think a lot of people can't handle the camp/cheese factor of these types of vacations. But if you can, they are a lot of fun.

People love the one in Gatlinburg. I believe it has a parrot in the lobby, and a fun island vibe.

Disagree. I stayed at Margaritaville in the Orlando area and there were many, many black people AND white people.

What?

What what? Yes, it was very diverse. You surprised by that?
