Yeah, that person is either making siht up or their extreme overreaction is on them.

I am a GDS parent, and this was pretty much my emotional progression, all in the space of about an hour.

That said, I didn’t expect the senior prank to be directed at parents like this. I always thought such pranks are aimed at administrators, faculty, or other students. As a parent of a junior who hasn’t hired an outside counselor, I was googling college counseling services. Luckily I hadn’t actually phoned any before the prank was revealed. So no harm, no foul. But it didn’t make me laugh.

This is kind of what makes it mean spirited. What makes it funny to some, in part, is an underlying mockery of parents and the suggestion of general contempt for the counselors.


Exactly. Just generally, I don't like pranks whose main goal is to make fun of someone's honest reaction (or to imply that someone else is disliked). It's mean-spirited. This prank also created a bunch of work for the college counselors & whichever staff members had to deal with the avalanche of emails and follow-up. If you're making a mess that someone else has to clean up, it's not funny.
