Subject: How much of a mistake is it to not let a 13 year old dye her hair?
It's best to let her get this out of her system early. I would do it at home because it is $$$$ at a salon.
She could also use hair wax if you want to try it temporarily. Or do something semi permanent like Overtone.
Or you could stop her and then she will do all this once she turns 18 and you have no control over it.

Does she want a whole head of pink hair?
Would she settle for a couple streaks or maybe just the tips on the underside of hair only? That was its easy to cut off or grow out

Well, yes it does grow out. But it takes years. Dying hair bright pink means bleaching it first. She already has porous curly hair and is in chlorine. It will trash her hair. If she wants to back to a natural looking color it has to be stripped and dyed again- which again is harsh on hair and needs regular toning or it will fade and get brassy. Even semi permanent pink hair dye, while not as harsh, sometimes doesn’t completely wash out. If you have shoulder length or longer hair, it will take 3+ yrs it grow back out your natural hair color. Assuming you just stop all together and don’t get caught in the dye and tone cycle
This was my issue. I didn’t want her to make a decision at 13 that she’d be living with at 16. I explained that, and we compromised on that she could bleach out the bottom half and dye it whatever color she wanted. She ended up not doing it because she could never really pull the trigger on the color. She has thick dark curly hair and the bleaching was going to be nearly impossible anyway.
I have a relative that bleached and dyes her hair all the time and has for the past almost 10 years and her hair is so fried — that might actually be a disincentive to my kids as they see how damaged it can get.

There are just so many things that I care about and are important to me about the way my kids grow up, but the color of hair isn’t one of them. Personally, I think being controlling about a safe, temporary change to their appearance is counter-productive.
