Cost at Whitman could easily be under 50K with merit alone. Skiing is 45 minutes away and they have a very active outdoor program. Pasco airport is 45 minutes away with frequent Delta and United flights.

DU also a good suggestion. Also, Colorado School of Mines if a STEM kid. Smaller merit awards there, but will meet your number.

State schools in Utah are still easy to get in-state tuition after the first year, but even OOS rates would meet your needs. Probably true for all of the mountain west state schools.

Except the ones who value skiing, are top students, and care about prestige. They're in New England.
