As for the home birth and no social security number, in the past this applied to lots of people. First step: find someone to certify you. My parents were both born at home. They did have Social Security numbers as they had worked, but when it came time to claim benefits they had to prove their age. My mom's older sister certified her age--she was only 16 months older. She (my aunt) was certified by a neighbor who was an adult when she was born. I'm not sure what my dad did, but he likely had a passport since he had been in the Merchant Marines when young.

My father's aunt used a baptismal certificate.

But, it is doubtful there are that many people who are born at home, homeschooled and unvaccinated. Except, of course for those illegally crossing our border.

My MAGA relatives were really quick to call me, their liberal black sheep who had the audacity to go to college, to help them compile their paperwork to get their real ID.

I sent the the steps they needed to request everything from each government entity, with web sites and all.

They couldn't even follow those instructions successfully and were mad I wouldn't do it for them.

And we need the equivalent of a Public defender to be provided for anyone who has difficulty obtaining a passport logistically.

Honestly, the passport is the answer to the federal government's insistence on Real ID compliant driver's licences. They should have gone that route in the first place instead of trying to impose requirements on states.

Just make passports free for all citizens. Then say that the passport is federal ID and it needs to be used for federal elections and to fly between states.

The did go that route, and are allowing a passport in lieu of Real ID. Don’t want a Real OD? Don’t get one and get a passport. A second optionIf you don’t have a passport and don’t want one (or don’t want yo carry one and risk having it lost or stolen), then there is a second option— RealID.

I got one because I flu domestically several times a year and access federal courts for my job. Carrying my passport each time is a great opportunity to lose it/ have it stolen.

No it’s not. If Real ID is being used to access commercial flights, military bases and federal buildings, it’s within the federal governments purview to makes sure certain minimum standards are met. AL doesn’t get to have a lunch lower standard to fly than WI.

She stated that in a congressional hearing. So she would have pergured herself. She's a former U.S. Representative for the State of Hawaii. Do you think she would perjure herself?

The federal government is not doing so. The federal government is declaring what it finds acceptable in order to fly on aircraft and enter federal buildings. States are still free to determine what is adequate to enter state buildings, buy booze, etc.

If anyone is concerned about not being able to fly without a passport, a Global Entry card is cheaper. I think it was $100. It can also be used to vote in some jurisdictions. I think it doesn’t require as many pieces of paperwork as a Real ID, but I did have to get fingerprinted and go to an interview.

We should come up with some policies that would appeal to a majority of “Americans With IDs.”

If voter ID WAS required, how would our policies have to change to win elections?

You do not. The passport is your proof of citizenship.

Real ID is not a proof of citizenship, but it will allow you to be able to fly within the US, and to access federal buildings and sites like military bases.
