Or is it only a 1-2 day per week thing that parents volunteer to chaperone lunch and recess?

Do kids end up in the nurses office often after recess? (serious question; read other DCUM threads about this topic in the MCPS forum).

Volunteers are not staff so there are no guarantees when it comes to numbers and timing.

It’s a bit like Lord of the Flies.

When my kid was RH (which was a few years and a couple of principals ago fwiw) a lot of parents volunteered to help with lunch and recess.

We also decided to send lunch because the lunch line was so long that even just buying milk meant you might not have time to eat.

Other than that, it was fine— really better than we expected given the number of kids.

They probably didn't reach their numbers as they expected this Spring post Jan 2025.

Hardly, Gongaza's 2029 is overenrolled. Biggest class in their history.

Isn’t Gonazaga a prestigious all boys high school? You do realize that Rosemary Hills is for boys and girls in grafes K-2, right?

My child went to RH pre Covid so not totally relevant.

Lunch and recess were by grade. All K ate lunch together, then had recess together. My daughter is very outgoing and loved it. It could be overwhelming for a quieter or shy child.

There were 8 classes of 25 in K when she attended. it is alot of kids.

She loved riding the bus to school.

My daughter had 2 amazing teachers and one okay teacher. Considering teachers are a mixed bag I was pretty happy with this result.

I really liked the K-2 setup.

Downsides

25 kids with only one teacher is just too much for K. Even the most experienced teacher cannot give this many children the attention needed in this type of transition year.

Tech. Also very teacher dependent. Some used it a lot more than others.

My biggest complaints regarding my child’s time at Rosemary Hills are not about the school, but the curriculum.

In retrospect, the early reading and math curriculum is awful. I sometimes think my child would have been better served at any private school with any other curriculum!

Families at RHPS who volunteer during the school day:

How many kids eat lunch and do recess at a time? And, how many adults are there supervising each (including volunteers)?

The principal said the required max ratio outdoors is 50:1, and that blows my mind.

Any feedback from today’s open house?

Just looking for feedback on the school from more sets of parents whose children currently attend or have recently attended (last few years).

I’d rather leave this open ended.

OP here. Would love to hear more feedback about RHPS from families whose children have attended since 2022.
