I don't snack and eat, on average, one meal a day and I've been overweight my whole life. Even when I was anorexic I still was above average weight. If we accept that menopause does this why can't we also accept that genetics does this?

I followed my menopause doctor’s advice and it worked. After 3 months, I weigh what I did in my 20s and I have 2-3 cheat days a week where I eat what I want and have wine etc. It’s like magic but my dr assures me it’s basic biology.
Hmm, deprive myself and constantly feel miserable, or gain a few lbs and feel miserable. The choices SUCK, but I choose fat and happy, because I am going to enjoy life, and that includes food. And 10-15 pounds does not really make anyone "fat"
It is wild to me that concentrating on protein and veggies and not snacking seems "miserable." Maybe I am out of touch, but do most adults snack? Eating three meals a day with a focus on protein and veggies sounds fairly normal to me?
Ok, you know what, it takes a lot more than that for some of us. Not just "focus" on protein and veggies, but actually cutting out categories of food we enjoy that are the basis of some of our families' favorite meals. Not just "not snacking," but eating fewer than 3 meals a day, every single day.
And don't forget that to actually lose any weight you've gained, you DO have to be hungry most of the time, vs doing the above just to maintain. You are replicating the same "just eat right and you won't gain weight" misconception the OP admits to!!
How about not make garbage a center piece of the family experience? Find something more interesting and productive to do maybe?
People in the US are constantly dosing themselves with food. Go to Walmart and you’ll see unlimited isles of garbage. That’s what people are snacking on and rewarding themselves with.
Grains are not "garbage." Telling me I need to cut out all grain-based meals for my family because they make it hard for me to lose weight is completely insane.
Sorry but grains are garbage. You don’t need them. Your kids really don’t either.

It’s a matter of personal preference no?
