Pretty sure Portland is protesting- if that city stilll exists.

Wait till the weather is better. It could be a long, hot summer a time better for protests.

It’s because there’s no unifying opposition leader to organize us and have our backs. People are afraid they’ll be picked off one by one.

I think people are busy working and scared of not being paid/losing benefits or being fired (in Europe people can easily take time off and strike/protest). Some people also do not care at all, or care to some extent but do not think protests help. It's also not totally clear what people would be protesting specifically. I did see a small protest yesterday focused on USPS

I'm French.

I wish for a happy medium. In France, strikes and street protests paralyze the entire country. The people love to protest! You can have tractors closing a major highway so people can't get to work, and the TV crews record stuck drivers saying: "yeah, I support the protests, they're sticking it to the government". Or someone in a huge crowd at a train station, waiting for a train that's been canceled, saying: "yeah, I'm not going to get home tonight, but I support the strike - they're sticking it to the government".

And it doesn't matter which government!!! The French are in perpetual revolutionary mode, all the bloody time. It's not good.

I'm not saying people should never protest, of course. The modern US and France were both created by the people rising up and toppling their previous hierarchy. I don't know where a happy medium would be, but there needs to be one.

People ARE in the streets. Don't believe propagandists try it to demoralize resistance. US is a big country and people are already out.

It's harder for USAmericans because people are stuck scraping by with less of a safety net to survive difficult times.

I'm old enough to remember when Republican scolds complained loudly about "hippies" especially when they protested US involvement in Vietnam. What does it matter what protestors wear? Would you prefer the Nazi and Nazi adjacent outfits of the Charlottesville Unite the Right protestors? Or the ones worn by neo Nazis who recently protested near Cincinnati?

Simple answer: Education and Complancency.

I heard a historian saying that protests are asking, resistance is telling.

It stuck with me.

He also said we’ve already lost Congress, so not to bother.

^ The fear part is the area most Europeans don't understand. Their jobs/health care etc. is not tied directly to their employment.

Why aren't there more protests?

Two main reasons: Apathy, fatigue and fear.

Apathy because many people don't think their opinion matters anymore. Elected officials (who have the power to change things) don't listen to them, and are corrupt, so what difference is marching in the street going to make?

Fatigue because so many families are just trying to pay the mortgage, keep their kids on track, AND continue to work jobs they don't like and/or can't afford to quit. They feel trapped.

Fear because they know that half the population doesn't have the same political views as they do (including in their workplace, neighborhoods, and social circles) and ANY dissent or differing view will lead to a confrontation which may affect those relationships.

Including with their boss, who may see them out on the street in a protest and decide to find a reason to fire them.

Government employees in the US generally do not have a legal right to lifetime employment, but they do have protections against arbitrary or politically motivated termination, especially after completing an initial probationary period. Prove that they have the "right to lifetime tenure employment" or STFU.
