I will never understand why maga roots for the wealthy and even seem to feel charitable toward them. What is the deal? Why do they want the wealthy to have all the breaks? Do they still believe in trickle down economics? Is it self-loathing, feeling that tax breaks, etc. should be merit-based rewards?

I honestly don’t get it.

Yep. I was thinking the same thing. This is where Hollywood could be useful. I remember reading about some celebrities saying they don’t need or want the tax cuts and won’t even notice them. We need more of them and other wealthy people to say this.

My OT rate is about $120 an hour. No tax on that would be great. Bring it on!

Bring it on? Do you not understand that Trump is substituting no taxes for no SS, Medicare or Medicaid? He’s not yet saying the quiet part out loud, but ask yourself how a country with a massive debt can keep cutting taxes and still maintain its social programs. It can’t.

You need to study up. This may be true of federal income tax, but NOT true of overall tax burden. When you factor in payroll taxes (which the wealthy hardly pay), property taxes, sales taxes, state income taxes, etc. the top 40% of earners all pay about 20% of their income to taxes. The other 60% of taxpayers? They pay less in taxes because the other 40% pay them extremely low wages. Essentially, they subsidize our lifestyles.

FOR TRILLIONS IN TAX CUTS FOR BILLIONAIRES.

This CAN NOT STAND.

Can you please provide evidence for both of these points:
1) social security and other benefits being cut
2) specific tax cuts that would only benefit the rich

Can you please elaborate on what these massive tax cuts for the wealthy are exactly? Not letting 2017 cuts for capital gains expire? That's the only info anyone ever provided, but looks like it's something already in effect? What is more that's coming for wealthy people that's going to benefit them tax wise?

Even that alone is bad enough. The Bush and Trump tax cuts have added TRILLIONS to the debt. Far more than anything they can ascribe to "bloated government" or "entitlements" read: Social Security and Medicare or any of the other things they are attacking and taking away.

And for what?

We need to take away veterans benefits so that billionaires can get that second superyacht to make it more convenient to go to Greece, ah that floating palace with an infinity pool and helipad, doesn't everyone need a backup yacht in the Aegean? The poor babies are suffering, and in need of a Private Island, reimagined, with man-made waterfalls cascading down cliffs and all that as a getaway, or that secure, ultra-lux private compound with Bond Villain chic and AI-controlled security, because shouldn't one be entitled to that when American society goes to hell? And hey, what about leisure space exploration, sipping champagne from orbit?

They are all so entitled to that. My 89 year old frail grandma is a mooching scumbag as is cousin Mike who served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan to end up with a TBI, amputated arm and shredded leg. They quite rightly should be living in a cardboard box out in the back alley because the billionaires DESERVE MORE.

And the actual tax plan doesn’t do that. Did Trump lie? No way!

All sound like fine ideas, however:

Almost no one reports tip income anyway, and this will also cause people who do pay taxes to really stop tipping. People will say, why give my after tax dollars to someone who won't pay taxes themselves?

No tax on OT means people will start working themselves to death to get OT, and employers, who already try to limit OT because it costs them, will limit it more by making everyone part time. Employers hate OT. This pattern is common.

Social Security: Democrats have been proposing this for years AND have proposed ways to pay for it. Republicans shut it down every time. So he'll have to get it past the Republican controlled Congress (but he has not proposed a way to pay for it). Also the average SS payment in the U.S. is $1,783.55/month. These people already do not owe taxes on Social Security. About half of Social Security beneficiaries paid no tax; about half pay tax on half of their benefits, with beneficiaries with higher incomes paying taxes on up to 85% of their benefits. This proposal helps about half of the higher earning SS recipients. So not taxing social security will be popular, but we'll see if Republicans pass a Democratic party platform idea, and if they pay for it.

On the $150 issue, I won't hold my breath on "longer term goals" used to buy votes, but never happen. Also, unless they find a way to pay for it that means taxing the very rich, this will mean the working upper middle class and the middle class in high COL areas get slammed again. Also, consider the form of government we will have if 76 percent of the population pays no federal income tax, plus the very wealthiest also not paying much if any.

Nobody thinks of the unintended consequences. Wait till women start dying in childbirth. Or, people die of cancer because they can't afford price gouging.

All the billionaires are libertarians. They don’t believe in a social safety net. They believe that taxes are theft. They believe that all their success is theirs and theirs alone.

Have you considered why Trump and the Republicans want to cut taxes while complaining about a large debt? Have you wondered why Trump keeps adding to the tax cuts - no tax on SS, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on first $150k - despite the debt?

Turns out, it’s simple. If everyone gets their tax cuts, there’s no money for a social safety net. When average people complain, Trump will tell them to save for it themselves because he just gave them back a whole lot of money. In essence, if you want tax cuts, you don’t want a social safety net. It’s that simple.

Are MAGA really falling for that?

Non-MAGA Republicans are pissed. Most of my family is made up of non-MAGA Republicans who served their country in the various armed services. They hate Musk and everything that he is doing. They are slowly turning on Trump for allowing Musk to have so much power.

Same.

However Republicans vote republican almost always. Dems are much more likely to vote for another party.

The way things are going we will not vote again.

Their are house races coming up and dumb repukes will still vote Republican instead of giving Dems the house Majority and making things somewhat bipartisan.

Kentucky, Alabama, AK, and MO are all examples of Republicians voting against their own interest for decades.
