Why is this group letting young people work for Peace Corps overseas with no other american humanitarians on the ground? That feels risky? Are we counting on the French or other allies to take care of these youth? State Department ?

The State Department notified Congress that it was absorbing USAID and firing just about everyone.

FYI - that's not how this works. Congress can say Yea or Nay to this but the State Department cannot dismantle a congressionally created independent agency. Nor can DOGE. And while the Chuang PI is stayed, the lawsuits are ongoing.

Aid agency: The Trump administration described its final plans for the U.S. Agency for International Development on Friday, emailing the remaining workers their termination notices and saying that the agency, which had 10,000 employees when Mr. Trump returned to office, will have some 15 workers, the positions required by law.

Sigh: lesson learned-don’t investigate any of Elon Musk’s shady activities or you will end up like USAID.

Fwiw, there is someone melting down right now about this "micromanaging" by the judge.

They are just glossing right over the unconstitutional actions of Elon Musk and DOGE and what a tremendously bad thing that is. There's a lot of ends-justify-the-means thinking among conservatives right now but c'mon, guys. The constitution, it's the big one. Do better.

Both Marocco and his now wife were fired/asked to resign from USAID under the Trump administration-Marocco for meeting white nationalists with terrorist links and being an all around toxic person and his wife for saying a bunch of awful stuff about lesbians and gay people. They got their revenge now.

I'm unclear on this, and it's probably buried in the various cases naming Musk as a defendant (quite a few of them). I had heard last week it was determined to be an agency subject to FOIA vs PRA. How that ties into Congressional oversight and confirmations I can't say I know anything about.
