How has taking all these hostages helped Palestinians? I understand they are getting Hamas militants and terrorists back for these hostages. But how does that help average Palestinians? Hamas has brought nothing but misery. I will never understand why people support them.

Hamas sucks the most, but they all suck.
They will continue killing each other until they are all dead. The idea that there are “good” and “bad” players in that war is an illusion.
You try to twist the facts so you can find a “good” side. You end up justifying children being murdered (“their parent was Hamas and using them as a human shield” OR “their parent is a colonizer who has abused Palestinians for decades, they’re acceptable collateral damage.”)
There’s no good side here.
Actually, there is. There is good and there is evil. The good side stays within its borders and doesn't launch terror raids into neighboring territory. The evil side engages in terror repeatedly over 75 or so years after losing a war they started. The evil side loses every time, but that doesn't make them less evil, and doesn't make the side which defeats them in self-defense any the less morally good.
Oh just stop. Israel doesn't stay within its borders. It doesn't believe in borders that are internationally recognized. Does it include Gaza, the West Bank, Golan Heights, or the Syrian and Lebanese villages it is currently occupying?
Keep on calling it self-defense. The rest of the world doesn't believe that anymore.
+1. And I hate to say it, but any moral cover the Israelis had for genocide that may have been afforded by the Holocaust has long expired. Just hearing the rhetoric coming from them is making me sick. It’s clear they don’t think Gazans are humans. Wonder where I heard that crap before.
I don't even think that many Israelis are religiously observant. At this point it's just all about nationalism.
There's no "moral cover for genocide" because there is no genocide. There is a righteous war against terrorists and those who raise, doctrinate, support, and shelter them. It is an entirely legitimate war of self-defense, which could have ended in an instant if the hostages were released. Hostage-taking is not the conduct of people with any claim to morality or to immunity for the consequences of their activites.
You keep saying that, but no amount of wishing will make it true. How many thousands of lives is enough retribution for a single hostage? We’re like thousands to one at this point.
However many it takes until they're released is the answer. The power to stop the killing is within Hamas' control. They just choose to keep trying to extort concessions at the expense of their own people, whom they apparently see as completely expendable. If they don't value those lives, why should anyone else?

IDF incursions have always been responses to suppress or prevent Hamas terror activity, but recognizing that makes it harder to paint Israel as the aggressor, doesn't it? And yes, they will stop at nothing to protect their land, from Hamas, Hezbollah, and from anyone else who thinks they can take it.

Borders often change after wars. Winners take territory to better defend themselves in the future. Losers lose territory from which they could launch attacks. Don't want to lose territory? Don't launch attacks from it.

Looks like progress is being made in a different direction since Hamas refused to extend the ceasefire by releasing hostages.
Wow never heard that before. What makes you think Israel is telling the truth? They never have in the past.
You're free to make up you own "news", as always, or you can wait for signs of life from the dead to prove the widespread reporting wrong. Don't hold your breath, though.

When Israel loses which it will I bet you will pull your hair out if someone said that.
