I don't know how anyone can say that Israel's slaughter-fest has remotely anything to do with the hostages. Netanyahu knows what he'd have to do to get additional hostages released - he just doesn't care. It's not his goal. It was never his goal.

I don't even think that many Israelis are religiously observant. At this point it's just all about nationalism.

There's no "moral cover for genocide" because there is no genocide. There is a righteous war against terrorists and those who raise, doctrinate, support, and shelter them. It is an entirely legitimate war of self-defense, which could have ended in an instant if the hostages were released. Hostage-taking is not the conduct of people with any claim to morality or to immunity for the consequences of their activites.

You keep saying that, but no amount of wishing will make it true. How many thousands of lives is enough retribution for a single hostage? We’re like thousands to one at this point.

However many it takes until they're released is the answer. The power to stop the killing is within Hamas' control. They just choose to keep trying to extort concessions at the expense of their own people, whom they apparently see as completely expendable. If they don't value those lives, why should anyone else?

Oh please, as though you ever cared about a single Palestinian life. Tens of thousands of Gaza children killed (and many bodies still rotting under the rubble) and yet you think Israeli actions are justified. Sick.

You call palestinians terrorists but many in the world see them as legitimately fighting for their freedom. Their land was stolen in 1948. Their people were massacred and exiled. Some “lucky” ones were crammed into refugee camps and narrow strips of land (aka Gaza) under brutal Israeli occupation. None of this started on Oct 7th and you know it.

Borders often change after wars. Winners take territory to better defend themselves in the future. Losers lose territory from which they could launch attacks. Don't want to lose territory? Don't launch attacks from it.

The same laws that declared "never again" decided land cannot be acquired by force.
