Trump is planning a military invasion to take over Canada.

It is safe to visit Canada.
Our habitual muttering about the weather has switched course to ranting about Trump is all.

We did start a political cartoon collage wall in the shared kitchen at work, where people have been printing satirical cartoons of Trump from news sources and adding them each morning to the collage. It now covers the entire wall.
My British colleagues are more direct in expressing their disgust at the US government, and they also tend to make disparaging comments about American people specifically, not just our politicians. However, in my many years overseas, the Brits everywhere I meet them have always been like this, so I don't think it is related to current events.
Bizarrely, I have some Chinese colleagues who LOVE LOVE LOVE Trump.
Chinese striver culture idolizes greed and glitz and fakery. This is the country that invented selling iPhone shells without iPhone guts, not as a fraud, but as a way to appear rich to your peers.
So now we're justifying xenophobia against the Chinese as well as Americans? Great. Just great.
The good Chinese are our friends in Taiwan.
The CCP in Beijing is not our “friendly trading partner.” Unfortunately, mainland China is our hostile, expansionist enemy who is actively doing harm to the USA every day; that is simply a fact.
Did you not complete your cyber security training? Are you unaware of China’s reverse-Opium War against the USA, which has actively and intentionally flooded our streets with Chinese fentanyl in order to weaken our society?
You need to wake up to the facts, PP.
Then dont be upset I guess when people call Covid "China Virus" or say other incendiary things, since xenophobia is now acceptable once they do something against Canada.

Americans and Trump are very popular in various Asian countries. When I was in Japan there were a number of places that would be absolutely decked out in American flags and very "middle America" style decorations. Stuff that would be considered OTT in the US

Yes, of course, when people meet individual americans in real life, they like them as individuals. But that's different than hating them as a monolith country.
THis is not new. And what happened yesterday in the news is HORRIFYING. You should not be surprised that Canadians hate americans with a firy passionate rage.
You'll need to be a lot more specific, sadly.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Why is it surprising? Do you know any country that loves Americans? Serious question.
Yes! I actually live abroad (Europe) and it's quite common for me to hear from people how much they love America when I say where I'm from. Of course I also get a good bit of ranting about Trump, people who sometimes dont like America, whatever. I think a bit of polarization is to be expected, but for sure you get plenty of really positive remarks when you say youre American. And I spent a good amount of time in various Eastern Asian countries- it's extremely common there to hear rhapsodizing praise about Americans.
But I mean, some haters are to be expected. It just seems like the Canadians are on another level and are just frothing at the mouth. I find it strange.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I'm on Tiktok where there are always videos from angry Canadians ranting about the tarriffs, how theyve cancelled their vacation and are only buying Canadian, etc. Which... totally fine and understandable. But what's crazy to me is this very xenophobic anger towards random American people, just spewing utterly hateful stuff. I'm not sure what the end goal is here, maybe it's just a form of venting and they dont mean it but frankly it comes off deranged. I dont think the average American feels the same kind of deep seated animosity towards Canadians (or any particular country, for that matter). Has anyone seen this?
It’s terrifying! I wouldn’t travel to Canada right now. It is not safe.
