The injured player aside, I still don’t understand why a team like the Arlington 2011s would play two trapped players instead of others. What is going on over there? Was it bad decision making by EG? Or longer term strategy with the SY changes?

How?
Without knowing the exact details on how they will address the problems of different localities having different cut offs for when a child can begin school, there could still be issues. People are hoping that this reduces the already small number of affected kids to an even smaller one but there will still be issues.

Late birthday are called trapped players. They are allowed to play down. VDA brought 2 kids (one is indeed a trapped player and another one is 2011 kid that has been played up on 2010). I believe everyone even Arlington parents have said they both are very good players while Arlington 2 trapped players just aren't as good and weren't helping the team.
Speak plain english now that it's the law of the land: they are both 2011s playing up in 2010.... except for this past weekend. Womp womp.
