We can only hope that their affair ends in a murder suicide.

I second that emotion

Marco Rubio was incensed. Here he was in the Cabinet Room of the White House, the secretary of state, seated beside the president and listening to a litany of attacks from the richest man in the world.

Seated diagonally opposite, across the elliptical mahogany table, Elon Musk was letting Mr. Rubio have it, accusing him of failing to slash his staff.

You have fired “nobody,” Mr. Musk told Mr. Rubio, then scornfully added that perhaps the only person he had fired was a staff member from Mr. Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

Mr. Rubio had been privately furious with Mr. Musk for weeks, ever since his DOGE team effectively shuttered an entire agency that was supposedly under Mr. Rubio’s control: the United States Agency for International Development. But, in the extraordinary cabinet meeting in front of the president and around 20 others — details of which have not been reported before — Mr. Rubio got his grievances off his chest.

Mr. Musk was not being truthful, Mr. Rubio said. What about the more than 1,500 State Department officials who took early retirement in buyouts? Didn’t they count as layoffs? He asked, sarcastically, whether Mr. Musk wanted him to rehire all those people just so he could make a show of firing them again. Then he laid out his detailed plans for reorganizing the State Department.

Wait, what?!? Rubio was not on board with dismantling USAID, his previously-beloved agency?

When Marocco, an avowed USAID-hater, was appointed to act for him while he was out of the country, it seemed a bit strange. I thought Rubio just wanted Marocco to destroy the agency while he was away so he didn't have to see it happen. Maybe so, but also apparently totally against Rubio's wishes.

Ah so I see we're in the FanFiction phase already

Meanwhile there is no efficiency but everything is in chaos and people are barely working because they don’t know what/who is staying and what the priorities are supposed to be. And the genius in chief and his band of staff have no idea how to use the data. And managers have people going and coming back and going against because the first thing was done with a machete instead of a scalpel.

Makes you wonder why no one thought to use a scalpel approach first? Oh that right lots of actual smart people did.

Chaos and incompetence at this level is dangerous. God forbid we come under attack or have a natural disaster, these are the people that have to manage and take of us during a crisis.

This.
Let us not forget that 9/11 was a result of the choppy transition from Clinton to W and a lot of intel was missed/not connected. That was nothing compared to the idiocy happening now.

Musk is still in control. This is just performance art.

A closed door session that didn't leak for days is .. not performance art.

This is our government working, or not working, as it were. This is important stuff.

Wow, just read the whole article. Based on interviews with five people knowledgeable of events. I was wondering when the leakers would transpire. Things are getting interesting.

Of course there is leakers. Nothing they are doing inspires trust or loyalty. And everything screams illegal so leakers are actually closer to whistleblowers than folks giving away state secrets.

People were leaking like crazy during the first Trump administration. Things have felt pretty buttoned up so far this time around, despite everything seeming ten times more chaotic, so I’m glad to see people in the room are starting to buckle. He’ll just cry fake news, though.

Do we think that this will have any impact on the pace of the layoffs? Or is it just for show?

As Trump accounces this, he is already going back on his word.

From the article:

"But he (Trump) also said he wanted cuts, and that Musk would remain a power center: “If they can cut, it’s better. And if they don’t cut, then Elon will do the cutting.”

Someone get ready to make another court filing with this quote in it! Hahaha.

Yep, the lawyers sent him out there to clean up the mess he made, but he’s so dumb he couldn’t follow simple directions.

Yes, this was supposed to correct the error made in the address to Congress when he credited Musk for DOGE.
