Thanks for sharing the racist a-hole interpretation of "BLM". You are probably anti"CRT" and anti"DEI" as well.

Both CRT and DEI are inherently racist.

STFU idiot maga

And this is why Republican policies are resurgent.

It's going to be called Liberty Plaza. A bit generic, but infinitely better than BLM Plaza.

Liberty Plaza is the proposed name in the stupid bill, but as far as I've seen Bowser has been silent on whether that is the intended replacement. I am hoping for some sort of online submission process, so that we can needle Trump and the Republicans with troll-y submissions. Biden Plaza. JD Vance's Sofa Plaza.

Please. Bowser is not going to fight the name choice for this. Who can legitimately object to Liberty Plaza?

However. It would have been insane to fight on this point and risk the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars of federal transportation funding. So I'm glad the District is backing down in advance from a confrontation that would have ended badly and not have been worth the battle.

Can the blacks not spell “also”? How about “too”? Too long? They figured out “matter”, not sure why they lost it at “too”. Was that not included in the house girls dictionary?

If people are too stupid to understand what it clearly means, I don't think one more word will help them.

It clearly means black people who commit crimes should get a pass; police should not enforce laws when the lawbreakers are black because they sometimes resist and lose that fight. When white lawbreakers resist arrest and suffer, where are the cries of "white lives matter"? That would be equally stupid. Or, how about making it generic - all lawbreaker lives matter?

Don't break the law and, if you do, don't resist the police. That'd be a better, non-discriminatory, racially neutral slogan.

Here comes the woke white lady to explain to the rest of us heathens what some ridiculous progressive slogan is REALLY supposed to mean. It's not 2020 any more, and no one has the time nor the patience for this sort of nonsense, so give it a rest.

Well, I'm a black lady and she is right. Given Trump's latest messaging, it is more important now than it was in 2020.

If BLM is the sword the Dems want to fall on, we'd better get used to losing elections.

Interesting! Hundred of million dollars are more important than reminding society at large that Black lives also matter.

Yes, losing hundreds of millions of dollars would have materially worsened the lives of everyone in D.C., so if faced with a binary choice, which it seems the city was, this was obviously the right call. It's possible to still think the slogan's message is important and also know when to drop the fight. If you'd rather just score cheap political points mocking the idea of Black Lives Matter, that's fine. Hope you enjoy your roads.

It is not a binary choice. That is the plan. Bowser went to Mar a Lago wearing knee pads, bowed down and kissed the ring. More to come. DC will be great again!

They are reactions to exclusion. If racism and other forms of exclusion (disability is a part of DEI) didn't exist, they wouldn't have been needed.

the way to stop racism is to stop being racist, not by elevating and glorifying one race over others. If it was "All Lives Matter Plaza", nobody would consider it to be a racist dog whistle pandering to a culture of grievance.

Funny how people like you think it’s best to just stop noticing race *after* reaping the benefits of hundreds of years of racism.

The entire concept of BLM was the downfall of the Democrat party, so yeah they probably should’ve added “too”.

The "too" doesn't move the needle on that. No one serious thought that "BLM" meant "only BLM." The "too" is a red herring, is my point.

This was one of the concessions Bowser made to Trump when she went to Mar a Lago to kiss the ring.

Great! Traffic is picking up in DC, we need the space/streets. That "plaza" was always an annoyance for every drive going through it.

Name change and a new mural won't change traffic you Dolt!

You wish it will be "repainted" that is the language that Bowser uses to fool naive people and avoid a huge outcry, but the Bill clearly says "remove"

"U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde, a Republican from Georgia, introduced a bill on Monday that would withhold certain funds from the District if BLM Plaza wasn't removed."

https://www.axios.com/local/washington-dc/2025/03/04/black-lives-matter-plaza-removed-america-250

They're going to paint or pave over the text and remove the designation and the street signs. This doesn't seem particularly complicated?
