Would you read fanfiction? If you go to archiveofourown.org, you can search by Kudos, which allows the very best works to filter to the top. The quality of the work varies widely, so searching by kudos is crucial to finding well written stories.

Oh! You might enjoy India Holton…many tongue in cheek literary allusions, funny and clever and plenty of open doors (it also has a dash of Victorian Britain, light witchcraft, a very empowered women). Start with the Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels.

And +1 to Bridgerton, well written and light (though not deeply literary).


I tried to read Outlander and it was terrible. Could not get into it because it was not written well. The show is much more ky jam.

I really like Kristen Callihan’s rock star series, in particular Managed and Fall. I’m also a Christina Lauren fan, and I like Ali Hazelwood. I also recommend Carley Fortune’s This Summer Will be Different.

I’ve gotten some good recommendations from the Fated Mates podcast.
