No. It is not feasible for this upcoming school year. Unless you have a spare $100 million sitting around. And even then, you'd have to generate the community consensus for its implementation, which does not exist currently.

They had the audacity to bring up Foundations? Not all school have a worthy of mention Foundations. What schools will get detection systems and which ones will not? MCPS needs to get its act together. Rich families are leaving county and will continue to leave county. then what are you going to do, County?

Prior to meeting in any interview with a local channel, Council member Friedson said all options are on the table.

They don't start to early. Other school systems have it figured out, copy them.

What about students wearing earrings. Does the detector go off of you keep earrings on?

When BCC has a gun on campus, there is momentum for change.

BCC is a hot mess. My hs sr shakes his head at all the drama there. This isn’t happening at Churchill where the principal Taylor doesn’t play that nonsense.

This forum has Bethesda area posters but posters with students at Whitman, WJ, and Churchill are not writing about incidents in their schools on this board because either they just don't or such incidents are not happening at those schools.

I am a Winston Churchill Mom. We get texts occasionally about bomb threats and stuff that have been checked out and cleared as nothing. We aren’t getting texts or seeing APB’s on the news about guns and weapons inside the school and real threats of physical violence.

I don't want metal detectors in schools. They aren't helpful and don't stop weapons (kids go in and out many doors all day, not just the front and rear entrances, and, let others in through those doors as well), ghost guns are made of plastic which won't be detected.

Metal detectors are for optics plain and simple. Money wasted that could be spent on far better things for our students. Like more teachers. Facilities that aren't falling apart. Facilities that aren't over crowded. SROs. More social workers or therapists or counselors. Or all of the above, but my vote is a resounding NO to metal detectors
