She was only 20 when she moved away, and 18 when she decided to skip college. And plenty of parents have influence over 22 year olds - those that are financially dependent. My college age kids know I have some say over major decisions in their life if they want to remain on the payroll, which they do.
I don’t understand your point. Her choice was to earn her own money and not be on the payroll. The goal is launch independent children no matter which path they choose.
Even though I judge the cops, they were not ultimately responsible for her death.
The sole person at fault here is Brian.

College-- she should have went.
Of course. But the PP asked why her parents let her go. I was responding to the “let her” part.
She had already moved away from Long Island and lived in North Carolina for a while. It’s not like moving away was a new thing.
I really dislike any hint that the parents had any fault here.

The cop had enormous baggage because he projected his wife onto her, he even said so several times! Is his bias her fault as well? As a woman, if I saw a young woman upset like this and a way too calm man, I would immediately think he is the dangerous one.

It demonstrated that men identify with the male partner, rather than the victim. They should all have to take training in unconscious bias. (Though of course, with Trump and his bros in power, women don’t have a prayer).
I could not believe when the officer said to the soon-to-be murderer that Gaby was just like his wife. Chilling.
