These low 1300 SAT scores at Georgia Tech are probably from applicants who are applying to business and liberal arts major.
From what I have seen, college of engineering and college of computing are full of very intelligent students. These are the students whose stats are on par with MIT admits. GT is kind of safety net that catches many of the MIT rejects.

Tons and tons of low academic performers get in.
Mind you, that is not a bad SAT score, per se, but for STEM college it is.
It’s not “tons,” and my bet is that most of them are 6’8” and can run an impressive 40.

That's about 1000 students a year. Thats plenty.
Don't see why you need to overly exalt the 2nd best school in Georgia, and 8th best public according to Usnews. Those scores are where it should be.
I'm not sure why you feel the need to bring it down. Where did you go to school? Where do your kids go to school? D-bag U?
It is really sad how many people here have so much angst towards schools. I really don't get it. I remain convinced that those with the most angst went to tier 4 schools (which are perfectly fine) and have never been within 500 miles of the schools they are insulting.

I wonder if they are skeptical of all the privilege and awards and internships, so much of which is just paid for. It's so much more impressive when a kid from a public can match the stats. I think that might explain some of the seemingly incomprehensible rejections.
