I don't think ATC is faultless. It looks like the helicopters were focused on runway 1, which is where the vast majority of take-offs and landings occur at Reagan. They probably believed they had the American Eagle plane in sight. However, it can be very difficult to identify different types of aircraft, particularly at night while wearing night vision goggles that severely limit peripheral vision. But most importantly, they did not seem aware that the American Eagle had been instructed at the last minute to use the little used runway 33, which crosses runway 1 and necessitates a different approach. The lack of clear instructions from ATC in a very busy airspace at night should be investigated. And I think it's nuts that helicopters are routinely told to rely on visual contact while crossing busy runways at night.

Otherwise you are just saying it because the person is a minority. We know nothing about the history of any of these people involved in the crash.

The president of the US just said these people cause the crash and these people are still working today. Air travel is not safe.

"That is amazing, and then it says, FAA says people with severe disabilities are most underrepresented segment of the workforce, and they want them in and they want them. They can be air traffic controllers, I don't think so. This was in Jan. 14, [2024], so that was a week before I entered office. They put a big push to put diversity into the FAA's program. Then another article, the Federal Aviation Administration. This was before I got to office recently, second term. The FAA is actively recruiting workers who suffer severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems, and other mental and physical conditions under under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative spelled out on the agency's website. Can you imagine?"
There are other staff that work for the FAA besides ATCs.
