I feel for all the aftercare camps who were hoping to have the weekend to set up. And now they don't and instead of a full day of camp, kids have 1/2 day of school and have to find childcare.

As recently as 2022, they used a makeup day in April.

So they may or may not follow their own written policy, and we have no way of knowing whether they will until they formally announce their plans. That’s inconsistent.

Huh? Most people aren't going to send their kids in on Monday.

“Most”? I’m sure it will be a popular skip day, but even those days are attended by most kids. Also I’ll be surprised if it stops at Monday with more snow likely at some point before the winter is over.

I'm not sure about older kids, but those who have signed up for camp sure aren't signing up. Yes, I think for ES, most will skip.

Probably you’re in a bit of a bubble to think that everybody’s young kids are off to camp that week, but I guess the point is moot.

It's trust that our ES the vast majority of families have parents who work full-time and need care for their kids. But that's not being in a bubble. The bubble is those who have a parent or caretaker at home so have no problem sending their kids to school.

No I get it, but in our area the lowest income working families do not have money for camp.

No, we already have an expensive specialty camp planned.

My son could really use the makeup day BEFORE AP tests! What good will it do in June when everything is done (especially for HS students)?

MCEA didn't like it.

🙄 such a tired comment. More than just teachers work during the school day genius. There’s a lot more that goes into running a school but apparently dcum still thinks America is a first world country to complain about a non-issue so there’s that. How about do something educational with your kids if you are SO worried that so much leaning is going to be missed.

Are you seriously suggesting that teachers didn't drive the selection of this over Jan. 29, March 31, and June 6?

Do you have evidence that they did?

Who cares about a half make-up day. Nothing to worry about really. It is completely optional.
