This is really crappy. Feel bad for those families.
He families can voluntarily go back and be with their relatives. Not a problem at all.

But I guess I needn't try to appeal to MAGA using things like humanity and Christian values, since they clearly have none.
I have also worked with an Afghan refugee and most of these comments are off base.
The refugee I worked with was shot at on the way to the airport to leave. Can you imagine trying to do that with young kids? He was also at risk of being killed because he worked with the US government, while his kids and wife presumably weren’t. It made the most sense to send the husband first to establish and he expected to bring his family over (which he made no progress on even before Trump…it is an incredibly difficult process). I hope that you understand they just can’t go back to Afghanistan as they will be killed. And he gets absolutely nothing from the US government after the first 12 months. They must show financial independents part of the process.
Did you ever wonder if he might have been telling you a story to gain your sympathy? Ever heard of taqqiyah?
What kind of coward leaves their wife and children at risk of death while they enjoy a cozy apartment in the US? Food and clothing delivered by the local purple-haired ladies club.
Their lives here are not good. Please do yourself a favor and stop talking about that which you don’t know.
You would not try to flee with kids who slow down the process while being shot at. It’s easy to hide behind your computer screen and talk big.
I’m not the PP but it is precisely because my family originally came to the US as war refugees being shot at that I am somewhat skeptical. What I know of the refugees from Afghanistan (and particularly how single-male-dominated that group is) does not match with either my family’s personal experience or those of other refugees I know.
It is possible there are circumstances we do not understand, but being a little skeptical of what we are seeing, given how different the character is compared to other refugee resettlement programs, is not knee-jerk MAGA.

Prepare to be canceled for speaking the truth.
If it can be shown that a significant majority are women or young children, I will agree this is not good. But a bunch of men who support what the Taliban is doing to women? No thank you.
Spoiler alert: they won’t be women and young children.
If they were Taliban, why would they have worked with the US military?
They don’t have to be Taliban to support what the Taliban is doing to women.
A man who is out there in Afghanistan actively risking his life to fight for the rights of Afghan women? Sure, bring him here as a refugee. But that isn’t 99.9% of this group.

How about do what Trump did with Syrian refugees and arrange for nearby countries to help them. More people helped with less money.
What makes you think he did that, other than refuse to allow refugees in?

I don't know that much about it, but if the process is weighted towards people that worked with the American troops, it totally makes sense that there were more men that worked with the American troops than women, and likely more single men since it was probably kind of risky even then. We have neighbors that came over from Iraq because the husband helped the American troops in Iraq in a technical/professional capacity (basically utilities supprt). I am sure there are just not as many women working in those fields in Afghanistan, plus less women whose families were comfortable with them working with the majority-male American troops.
Trump just seems to miss the "pay it forward" concept. This 1600 people is really nothing in the scope of the American population. But *cancelling* the commitments to them will make a big splash for the future in countries where we would like people to help our troops with translation, clean water, transportation, electricity etc.

This. Why is that so hard to understand. Even for the illegal immigrants in the US, they can go with their parents.
