My non-Jewish Asian/European kid attends GW and hasn't noticed this particularly. Maybe because we come from an area with Jewish families? It's all relative. There are kids from all over the world.

Underrated school set up to rise in the rankings. Just need to be OK with a city campus and mediocre sports. A shame they gave into the woke trend and dropped the Colonials moniker.

Perfectly fine school. I went for grad school. Was able to fully fund w fellowships and awards. Otherwise it’s very costly.

My point was, it was ridiculous advice. Obviously anyone would choose Georgetown over GW. The problem is Georgetown is very hard to get into, whereas GW is not. Your advice is comparable to... choose Harvard over BU. Yeah, no s*** sherlock.

GWU ECE is credible, but UMD, UMCP, and (yes) GMU also are credible. There is no “void” locally.


Didn’t say locally - said DC. None of the schools you mention offer a city atmosphere that some kids value or want to experience. Should it be the only factor? No. Is it a reasonable factor? For some, yes. College Park is probably a better school, sure - as are plenty of schools - but it’s not a sure admit for plenty of kids and it’s not the school the OP asked about.

I agree that GWU, while not in the top 10 yet for anything other than its vaunted international affairs school, is very ambitious about being a more selective school and has the fundraising clout and academic connections to get there. It's an up-and-coming school.

UMCP is very competitive for engineering, and UMBC/GMU are both commuter schools in the suburbs. There’s a niche for GW.

One of the most expensive universities to attend. Some programs are strong - for example Intl Relations, ECE. Takes in lots of PRC students at full price to help pay the bills.

Interesting! My DC is interested in engineering so this is helpful.
