God help us if any of the democrats have to retire
I don't think Thomas will retire. His entire time on the court has been getting even furbhid confirmation hearings. Alito probably but none of the liberals are going to retire with Trump choosing their successor.
Sotomayor may die. She isn't in the best of health. If Vance follows Trump in 2028 and has two consecutive terms we most likely will have only one liberal on the court at some point.

The Supreme Court will get younger in the next 4 years. I'm sure the old conservatives will be pressured to retire. Thomas may just be cast out for his indiscretions. Sotomayor has some significant health issues. Perhaps Trump decided to pack the court.
Alito and Thomas are going to retire to cushy of counsel positions or emeritus positions.
Sotomayor is going to try to hold on, but we are going to be white knuckling it a bit.
Thomas loves power more than money and he loves sticking it to Democrats. Roberts isn't going to do anything about Thomas's lack of ethics so he will stay on the court and continue to take from his billionaire pals.
Thomas has been on the court for 33+ years, right? Does anyone know how long he has to stay to become the longest-serving justice? It has to be pretty close. How old will he be then?

Anonymous wrote:As the Democrats requested, Trump will now expand the Supreme Court to 13 members, appointing 4 new ones right away. They'll be confirmed via voice vote and in office by mid-February.

I hope she does but the betting odds that her replacement is selected by a republican is ~70%.
Even if she makes it to 2029 there is a decent chance that a republican will be getting inaugurated that year.

Thomas has never been the swing vote on any decision.
He could make 10 times what he makes now in the private sector.
Of course he was. Starting with Dobbs.
ETA, there was no swing vote in Dobbs.
Anonymous wrote:They have all been swing votes. My point on Dobbs was it was 5-4 so Thomas vs a different new justice would have switched that result.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Thomas will be 77. So you think his vote could have gone either way in Dobbs? He was the one on the bubble?
Or do you not understand what swing vote means?
Right now it looks like the swing votes are Barrett, Roberts and to a lesser extent Kavanaugh.
I could predicted how thomas, alito and gorsuch would vote on any case with 100% accuracy.
There are other cases where those three voted differently than expected.
