Why torture us with changing the order of the lists

How many non-prereq free electives were actually in there?

A bit unusual to do that much science and math but not any CS besides Principles tech ed credit.

Interesting to take AP English Lit but not Lang. I’m guessing that’s because 12ths aren’t allowed to take Lang, and student didn’t want Lang in 11th?

Precalc in 9th grade? Is that the same as Algebra 2? What was the Math track in MS?

Alg 1, geometry, Alg 2, Precalc, Calc, MV Calc is the basic MCPS annual sequence, starting in 5th-9th grade, with 7th-8th being most common, and about 1 std deviation of population for each shift in starting year.

No 5th grader is taking Algebra 1. Maybe AIM (prealgebra).

Maybe not in your school.

Yeah nice try. That would be triple accelerated. There is no way MCPS would allow it.

Wow. So in addition to being crazy good at math, they also are hijacking busses to drive them to nearby middle schools? And MCPS hasn't noticed?

That's amazing!

2. Bumped it up to 3 for this year, and considering 2-3 for next.

WJ APEX program recommends 2 for sophomore year, so that is what my kid is doing APUSH + AP CSP (for tech credit)

How many AP courses did your student take as a sophomore. They have 1 as a freshman. Don’t want to overload them next year but also want them to be challenged.

My kid took no APs in 9th and 10th, and then took APES in 11th and AP English Lit in 12th. Overall a B student. He is on his way to a solid in-state school next year and had lots of college options and got to choose one he loves.

If your kid loves academics and the APs are interesting and challenging in all the right ways…awesome! If not, though, please don’t feel like your kid needs to do this to have a good path to college. There are lots of paths.

Would you mind sharing some of the schools where your child was admitted? Those of us with B students are looking for a list! Thank you!

A few he loved and got into were U of Scranton, College of Wooster, Allegheny, and St Mary’s of Maryland. We are in-state for MD and cost is important, so that is where he has decided to go.

I would be delighted to have my son attend any of these colleges. It's good to see the sanity with APs on this thread. We are not all desperately fighting for limited places in a limited number of elite colleges, and don't want to make our kids high school years miserable in the process.
