Thank you! Glad teachers are moving ahead.

Glad your streets were plowed and you have flexibility at work or SAH to be able to take your kids to school on a weird last minute schedule. Ours are icy hills with piles of snow/ice and not passable by school buses. And I don't get paid time off or able to reschedule work meetings based on a last minute whim to reopen the schools on a Friday for a short day.

You have to make the decisions best for your family, but that doesn't mean the rest of the world stops until you're ready. The beat goes on.

You are being smug.
I am hardly an outlier in this. I wouldn't be posting if this was a one-off type of thing that happens when kids get sick, travel, etc. This is a problem affecting many people today, and some schools are affected more than others depending if they are in the plowed/unplowed areas and/or serve majority of plowed/unplowed neighborhoods. I am glad "the beat goes on" for you in whatever race you are running that you think is going to get you further than those who had to skip one half school day
So far you are succeeding in your smugness

You should probably log off DCUM since you are so busy with your job that doesn't off paid time off or the ability to reschedule anything. That must be hard to balance with all your anonymous posting.

Nothing at all was last minute. We learned about the 2-hour delay yesterday afternoon.

I had a heavy morning schedule, afternoon less than 24 hours notice is tough for many professions. You got your way and your kids out of the house, why post? Did your massage and Pilates get cancelled today or something?

This sounds like your fault to assume FCPS would be closed again. A 2 hour delay was an expected decision if you had been paying any attention. How do you manage actual life problems?

How do you manage to remain so pissed and keep responding to these threads that no longer have any relevance for you since you got what you wanted? Unlike those of us who wanted schools closed today you have zero to complain about, yet there you are. Are we raining on your smug parade?

Posters are here to report that things were normal.

Some schools maybe but not all.

This. It depends on the school. Teachers likely adjusted according to how many people were in attendance. They also adjust based on material and how well/poorly kids do, at least some of them do.

So you wanted schools closed today because it's more convenient for you? Sounds like it's time to unschool or homeschool or podschool so you can make the schedule. I'm sorry Dr. Reid didn't think to ask you before making the decision for the other 179,857 kids in the county. The nerve!

Dr. Reid has lied about VDOT coordination with FCPS or was completely clueless. Majority of people already adjusted their schedules to the idea that schools will be out and not many expected it to reopen on the last day of the week. it was OPTICS, and there is nothing you can say or do to convince me otherwise.

We're collectively heartbroken that we can't get you onboard with the real world.

Middle school teacher:
1st period: 16/30
3rd period: 20/29
5th period: 22/30
7th is my planning period.

Our area has a lot of roads that are still bad so I wasn't surprised at those numbers.

You sound like a lunatic. NOBODY CARES if you are the busiest person the planet. The school calendar does not revolve around you or anyone else. My goodness, I bet you are a nightmare colleague, neighbor, spouse and person in general. Your kids were probably thrilled to get out of the house and back to school.

Again, missing the point. It's not about ME, it's about many people having to deal with additional challenges, logistics for no benefit. Nobody had provided a valid reason as to the necessity of this sudden short reopening. It's all about people like you trying to rub into the faces of those who couldn't send their kids how their kids are "learning and getting ahead" of ours. It's the only reason you are even posting today since you really have zero to complain about. Why is it so important to you?

My kids were at home. I hope your pilates/spa gets rescheduled for Monday, you just have to survive another 2 days at home with your kids.

School is open by default. Today's change to that status quo was that we had a two-hour late start.

The same notice we got the first four days this week? Nobody GAF if your Zoom calls got disrupted as you parented your kid to school this morning.

When schools closed we planned and prepared and it looked like they would be closed for a week and not many expected suddenly to readjust for a Friday when there was no rush to do this, but pure optics.
For someone who got your way you sound awfully bitter, I wonder why. I would expect you must have had an amazing day with kids finally out of your hair.

Bitter? Your conclusion is just weird. Why do you think it looked like they would be closed for a week? Where was that message given? Today was fine.

The same notice we got the first four days this week? Nobody GAF if your Zoom calls got disrupted as you parented your kid to school this morning.

When schools closed we planned and prepared and it looked like they would be closed for a week and not many expected suddenly to readjust for a Friday when there was no rush to do this, but pure optics.
For someone who got your way you sound awfully bitter, I wonder why. I would expect you must have had an amazing day with kids finally out of your hair.

We were able to move on and start new content today.

This sounds like your fault to assume FCPS would be closed again. A 2 hour delay was an expected decision if you had been paying any attention. How do you manage actual life problems?

Kinder kiddo says 3/25 were out.
3rd grade kiddo says 1/17 were out.

They're at an immersion school so many kids are driven.
