Has MCPS ever had a delayed opening due to cold temps? We have a lot of walkers at our school, and sidewalks are STILL not cleared (I understand building service workers are putting in overtime and doing their best but there’s so much ice and compacted snow, I’m just wondering if delays are ever considered for extreme temps).

Anonymous wrote:No they are not. If you have kids in the system, you would know that the delay or early release days are primarily to get kids fed. The students have about 30 min in each period usually in HS depending on type of bell schedule the school follows. It is better than zero minutes for the week though. It is a nice change of scenery for the students to be in school after three (and for some even longer when they decided last Thurs and Fri would also be part of their winter break) days at home.
