Not sure why they are hating on you. If you have a top choice, no reason not to ED unless you want to wait for first semester grades if you need a boost. My DC was an ED to UVA and happy as can be do be accepted and happy to not have to worry about going to a school that was not first choice.

3 out of 4 of my kid's T10 admits were RD. The other one was EA.

Neither of my kids did ED, but then they weren't trying to necessarily go to the highest ranked school possible. But both did fine in RD relative to their stats.
