"No thank you."

Don't engage.

They are on their way to alcoholism if they cannot have an evening with drinking heavy.

My boomer parents are 100% like this. It is so annoying. No solutions OP, just commiseration.

Don’t drink if you don’t want to. “No.” And “No, thank you.” Are both complete sentences. Use early and often.

I sort of envy their ability to drink and be merry (assuming things don’t descend to ugly arguing) Alcohol is great for the first half-hour and then I feel dehydrated, anxious, tired and headachy. Sometimes it is easier for me to feign drinking- a splash of wine that I keep topping of with seltzer in a wine glass. It shouldn’t be necessary but it avoids unwanted attention. There ARE abstemious people who are grim and tight-lipped around food and drink and they truly aren’t much fun. I choose the spritzer and a cookie or two, to make life easy for myself.

I hate coffee and raw oysters, and no one pushes me to have those. Alcohol does seem different.

Maybe there's some deep set guilt with people who push you to drink alcohol. Or hidden jealousy that you have more will power than them.

Because I don't drink because of medication interactions, I don't get hassled.

You don't see that it is inappropriate for them to push other adults to drink? Really. Speaks volumes about you.

Well, obviously that one won’t work. Try www.aa.org instead. You’re welcome.
