I guess nothing is final until the schedule is released, but I was curious if anyone has insight on the flighting process for this tournament.

Like what? Use examples or it just sounds like your kids team got moved down and the club next door moved up

Without naming the teams - Team A would have been very competitive with a good chance of going to semifinals/finals in the original flight. Team A has already beaten several other teams in the original flight this fall. Team B plays in a lower league and has lost to those same teams this fall/last spring. Team B will probably go winless instead of being competitive in the lower flight and Team A now has a very easy schedule in the lower flight.

"There is a ton of bad teams in lower brackets. Example are these academy teams (futboltech, etc) that form to get ranking points with no long term strategy besides making money forming super teams. Also the placement in the brackets is all wrong. My DS team had more competitive brackets at ASIST and Nations cup."
i think this happens because Jeff cup tries to limit the number of local teams in each bracket. For my kids age group out of the 10-15 strongest teams 8-10 are local but instead of putting all of those local teams in the top 2 brackets those teams are spread out over 4-5 brackets so the 7,8 teams are playing in the 4th bracket. I think that is why typically once you get below the first couple of brackets the group winners are usually a VA or MD team. After watching my kid play the same handful of teams in the top bracket of every local tournament i like the change.

The whole team has to pay the fine, or just individual person ?

No one ever pays a fine. It's an old wives tale. They cannot police this or enforce it. Come on people.

Not true for Jeff Cup. It was heavily enforced before Covid. They didn’t check during the 2021/2022 years but they are back on enforcing it. Team needs to hit the minimum # of rooms or team will pay fine or force to forfeit. Some other tournaments u can get away with but u never know with Jeff Cup.

Adding to this. This is one of the top 5 tournaments in the country. They reject over half the teams that apply. They thus have the power to enforce, and they do. They have a ready list of teams they rejected on a waitlist salivating at the chance to take to your team's place when you listen to someone who says its an "old wives tale".

Yes this is one of the top 5 tournaments in the country. Its spread over four weekends. They reject over half the teams that apply. Level of competition is extremely high.

There was an interview the Jeff Cup did in 2020 before COVID that explained their process, which, at least then, entailed a committee getting together multiple over 6 weeks to place teams. They admitted they get it wrong, but it's not (or at least wasn't) a random process. https://www.soccerwire.com/news/inside-the-jefferson-cups-acceptance-and-division-placement-process/

Not all team are accepted to play in Jeff Cup. Teams shoot to be in the top brackets where the competition is tough and winning it is a big deal. Teams don't ask to be placed in a brackets, the tournament assign teams to brackets based on their records.

That's not entirely true and if it is, the organizers have no clue what they're doing.

That’s not saying much. It’s ECNL. 5 years ago ECNL was apex. Now it’s a watered-down league with top talent on the MLS-side.
