$15 spectator fee for the weekend or $5 per day is hardly nickel and diming. Finals were free.

As a Marlins parent who worked multiple sessions at the meet, I have no clue what constitutes nickel and diming.

Your kids know their times and splits. As to who made finals, they also can look at the printed and posted meet results on the wall. Parents stop complaining.


Expect results being posted was sporadic at best for the 12 and under session. By Sun, they stopped even posting the 12 and under prelim results

I mean, the meet ended yesterday and don’t count toward qualifying for the meets this coming weekend, so there is no real rush.

Your kids know their times and splits. As to who made finals, they also can look at the printed and posted meet results on the wall. Parents stop complaining.

The results aren't wonky- meet mobile is wonky. Those are two different things. As you note- you know your kid was the alternate. Was your swimmer listed on the posted results as an alternate? They are fine- the swim was recorded, they have an official time and are in the official results. Don't worry about meet mobile.

In terms of relay splits- the most likely answer is that a touch had to be added or subtracted and thus there is not a split time. Basically it means that either at the end of the relay leg- the swimmer didn't hit the pad hard enough to trigger it (this is pretty common especially with younger kids) or the swimmer didn't get out of the pool quickly enough and triggered the pad as they climbed out- which means that the touch had to be subtracted. This is the job of the timing system operator- that official is watching, and adding/subtracting touches. But if the touch has to be added or subtracted there is no split time. This isn't meet mobile- there is no split time in the results.

I appreciate all the hard work of the volunteers. However, I am perplexed by the Wi-Fi and technology issues, especially since George Mason is an affluent campus with a robust fiber network. Perhaps the facility should consider using Ethernet connectivity instead. Additionally, proper testing by the technical support team before the start of the meets would enhance the overall experience.


I'm sure I won't convince you- but the reality of the situation is this:
There is a major shortage of pools in the area. There is an even more extreme shortage of pools in the area that have adequate spectator seating and parking. GMU really offers a lot for a swim meet- it's fairly centrally located, parking is easy, there is good spectator seating, there is a nice big scoreboard that accommodates two pools, etc. The facility staff is students- they are helpful and trying, but they actually don't know very much about networking computers, etc. To the extent this means that results aren't quickly pushed to meet mobile- this is just a non-issue. It makes no difference to the running of the meet etc. It does make a difference to parents. The number of parent complaints about meet mobile that coaches have to deal with is very painful for the coaches. These complaints will trigger the very apologetic coaches to come over to the table and ask about meet mobile. The table basically responds with the networking problems.
Could the meet host put pressure on the facility (GMU in this case) to do more for computer networking? Yeah- they could- I kind of doubt it would be effective, mostly because GMU knows it's not going to lose these pool rentals- there is not a better option for hosting big meets.

Would you like to delay today’s start so they can do that and then have finals going until 9 pm? As many other people have attempted to tell you, it’s not so simple as pushing a button. You can’t network the computers together on a network that requires you to login individually. The computers are connected but they need to be on the same network. Everyone is on a different code when they login to the wifi on GMU so then the network on the computers isn’t the same. Help was requested from an IT person yesterday.

Not true and unfair dig. Happened at Senior Champs in March too at UMD. It happens.

There is no USA Swimming rule or any other rule that I can find that requires results to be pushed to meet mobile. In fact, this glossary actually says results are pushed to meet mobile at the conclusion of the weekend.

Be grateful and consider yourself lucky in life if results have been pushed real-time for the majority of your meets. It’s not always the case, nor is a meet required to do so real-time.
