I was out last night enjoying some live music, dancing in a crowded bar with some women I was talking to. I definitely smelled that smell you describe on one of them and I liked it.

You all are my people. I too am a super smeller. Bad smells don't make me gag because I'm used to them. I can smell BO far away, I know when women are on their period and wear pads, I can smell alcoholics from their sweat, and I also can smell diabetics. I wish I could monetize this. My #1 favorite thing about my dh is the way he smells- his neck and also when he breathes out through his nose. I have never smelled anything like it and still can't get enough and we've been together like 16 years. One of my kids has a good sense of smell and I hope it's like mine and my mom's. She can tell what I've eaten hours afterwards.

Don't most people smell ketosis on people's breath? It used to be the goal when dieting on any of the low carb diets. I can smell it on my kids when they're very sick and haven't been able to eat (obviously rare).

I haven't smelled the grapefruit smell though. It's one of my most favorite smells though. I buy the Neutrogena grapefruit face wash and face lotion, but it doesn't linger too long. It's not alcoholics or wine drinkers (next morning after drinking)... that has a different sweet smell to me that's nothing like grapefruit.

OP- do you wear perfume or any scents? I have always wondered if people with better sense of smell gravitate to certain smells. I like rose and orange, but don't like sweet floral smells usually.

I’ve actually noticed it on myself on occasion after a workout or something. I think smelling slightly grapefruit -y is more pleasant than some of the super strong BO where people smell like chicken noodle soup. My DH says I always smell good, but I guess that makes sense because he is attracted to me. I imagine we all have different interpretations of the same smells.

There are known chemical similarities between parmesan cheese and vomit. Some people don't like parmesan cheese because of that smell.

That would be my guess as to your grapefruit scent...it's a compound you smell in sweat or greasy hair.

I can relate to this. To me onions smell like BO, coffee sometimes smells like skunk, peach flavoring smells like cat pee, and guava like vomit. I get a strong garlic smell off of some people at times, but I assume that's diet-related.

This is interesting b/c I think coffee smells exactly like the air after a skunk sprays. The worst offender is 7-11 coffee, IMO. I can hardly stand going in one of those stores. Starbucks smells the least skunky to me. Another thing with me is that I don't think skunk spray smells anything like crappy weed.

OP, is it the smell of actual fruit part of grapefruit or the smell of the peel of a grapefruit just as it’s been peeled or shortly after? Because if it’s the latter I definitely know what you mean. I only smell it on specific groups of people. It’s not a perfume or product smell and it’s not a cooking smell. It’s definitely from their skin. I have always assumed it was some kind of biological thing.

Similarly, I’m white and American and my ILs are all from Hong Kong and the older generation insists that European people have a specific smell- not BO, not food cooking smells, but an actual body smell. I think it’s possible that we smell genetic differences in each other. Perhaps the various group’s mutations and genetics cause different levels of chemicals to be produced by the same biological processes?

A lot of women are using netrogena grapefruit body wash — I have that. Also vitamin c face washes are popular for skin. I also use a cucumber deodorant. I love smelling like salad apparently
