My neighbor was a public high school teacher. He took a second job at Target and worked at Target 30 hours a week in addition to his teaching job to pay for his daughter's Mt Holyoke College.

He liked working at Target.

US military academies. They will have a several year commitment after their free college.

The military is looking for smart officers.

ROTC is also worth looking into.

A no-cost Ivy education is never guaranteed and shouldn't be considered commensurate with a *current* 270k income (surely built upon over the years). There are fantastic in-state opportunities. You set them up for a successful path that's within their reach.

Knew one girl last year who was split between UofFlorida and W&M. Chose Florida bc of financials. She was in-state in Maryland.

OP, don’t allow your kid to apply to Ivy or Ivy+ if you can’t afford it. In state only.

Your child shouldn't even be looking at schools you can't afford. Tell them to look instate only. Many of DC's friends were told this. They are at state schools. We have excellent state schools. Do this and move on.

OP - why didn’t you save a little? Is that income level fairly recent? I guess I am surprised because while most people at that income level do not have the full cost of college covered, they usually have something. If you have $20K a year or something saved, you can look into what you can cash flow. If you don’t, stick with state schools.
