Musk fired 80% of X staff. It's now setting records for viewership and usage and better than ever. Same could apply to the federal government.

Tell you what. Let's apply that model to YOUR workplace (assuming you're not self-employed). Pretend 80 percent of your co-workers are fired and tell us how that will work. And while you're working on that hypothetical, figure out what would happen if YOU were fired. What makes YOU so essential to your employer?

I just resigned from a federal agency after working there for 18 months. I am in IT and was hired by a large bank at 50% higher salary, better medical coverage, 401K benefits, vacation, sick leave and maternity leave. I had a staff of seven but did most of the work myself because the staff was pretty disinterested and it was easier to do the work than try to get them to do it. So I id 90% of the work of eight people in a 5 day work week. That might be the kind of waste that should be eliminated. I took the fed job after my first child was born because I thought it would be easier. It was, but it was also frustrating to watch people waste their lives but could do nothing about it.

Conservatives wouldn’t be so insistent on power going back to states if Democrat presidents would do the things the federal gov is SUPPOSED to do—like protesting the border, maintaining a solid military, or maintaining an impartial DOJ. But since those basic functions seem beyond your ability, then fine, get the hell out of the way and let the states do it.

Texas trying to enforce the border laws because the feds wouldn’t, is a microcosm of this whole movement.

No, some conservatives are so insistent on “returning power to the states” because they got caught in a combination of a sea of Russian propaganda designed to weaken the US (Russia sucks militarily, it is pretty obvious at this point, but they are strong in spreading misinformation and propaganda) and propaganda and misinformation by various tech oligarchs who are working to control the levers of power in the US to their advantage. Basically, they fried their brains if they ever had them and they have no idea what they are talking about. Plus many red states are afloat because they get money from the government. Wait until Alabama has to come up with its own money to pay SS and healthcare to its old people

Russia and NK are salivating over who’s going to get the nukes when republicans dismantle the fed.

The very instant there’s a power vacuum in the US, they will be here to pick up our loot.

So you're equating X, a social media platform, with the federal government? Ok.

I don't work for the government, so I'm far more likely to be engaged in a productive activity. As people keep saying, the shutdowns show how useless most of the government is. I know it hurts the feelings of federal workers to be told their work is meaningless, but the truth hurts sometimes.

The truth is we got the low-hanging fruit years ago with cleaner air and water. We simply need to go back to the 1970s standards and stop writing new ones that choke economic growth.

We never had a true shutdown. People were still allowed to fly during the shutdown, because air traffic controllers and TSA were working without being paid. True shutdowns would halt all air flights, for starters. There weren’t mass illnesses from poisoned food because inspections were still happening as govt workers were still working without being paid. If you want a true shutdown, don’t be surprised when hundreds and thousands of people and businesses get pissed off when they cannot fly and their travel plans are ruined.

Great, abolish the TSA and let the airlines handle it. Would be fine if they did the same for air traffic controllers, who have had increased security incidents due to DEI hiring. Don't believe me, just listen to the audio of any near miss.

Yeah, can’t wait until airlines hire the cheapest air traffic controllers or security screeners possible or work them to the bone with a Skeleton crew and are short staffed. They’ll crash flights. Or let terrorists slip through. This is exactly the same garbage McKinsey has pushed for years and has all sorts of deaths at places like steel factories to even Disney world.

+1. Looks how great it worked for Boeing. Once a giant everybody trusted, now doors pop out of planes because they forgot to bolt them, the Max grounded for years after two crashes, astronauts stuck in space because the shuttle is unsafe. Let’s get traffic controllers working for cheap from a third world country and let’s see how it turns out.

The Fed just grew into a self-licking ice cream cone. Outside of the military, you could probably cut 50%+ of the Federal work force. Try reading the Constitution.

We just need DoD, DoJ, Treasury, State and IRS. Get rid of everything else.

No SEC? lol

Op - ok so what happens if we just have a department of defense and nothing else?

Serious answer? States do their own thing. Some states have tons of gov services, others become libertarian paradises.

Basically look at 19th century US government levels.

Is that better? Depends on where you might live i guess.

Incoherent distinction between whether federal or state government should be shrunk to nothing.

Government should be small enough to drown in a bathtub!

Taxes are theft!

We should be more like Somalia where they have a government so small it's not able to do anything and minimal taxes that lets the infrastructure crumble!

MAGA!!! Somalia for all!

I’m a conservative and never on Reddit. I wouldn’t say it’s a board reflective of majority opinion.

If the government were a social media platform gunning for clicks and likes, sure.

Except, in general, state/local employees are more lazy and more inept.

Okay then just get rid of federal/state/local government and let people do what they want. You want roads and water and energy - get it yourself. Or make a commune with people of like mind and figure it out. What do people think government does? I mean I know conservatives think the government does nothing. So then deal with your life without it.

States will never have their own rights because it makes absolutely zero sense. What, are you going to take a driving exam in 50 different states in case all of the laws are different? Think about all of the consumer products. What, is a company going to make 50 different version of it to meet 50 different states' requirements? That will never happen.

There is a limit to states' rights. Most people aren't that extreme and realize we need national policies set by the federal govt to have uniform standards for many things.

Wow, you are not making a strong argument with this post, are you? States do "have their own rights" as the tenth amendment makes very clear. Driver licenses? Seriously?

I've worked for large corporations and government. Any sufficiently large organization has waste, red tape, inefficiencies, etc.
