Yes they are, I do see it often, especially to exceptions where off sides would not be the case

My daughter is a high school senior but doesn’t look like it because she is very small for her age. She has played soccer since she was 4. She’s been a ref this season and has gotten a lot of games under her belt and has been doing well. She’s done rec, EDP, NCSL games and 3 tournaments. Never had an issue until last weekend at the Bethesda tournament when parents and coaches at a u9 match left her in tears. I understand not agreeing with calls, but they were yelling out mean things to her which boggles my mind because all these parents have daughters too. I now go with her to her games because I want her to know she has someone in her corner if the game gets out of hand. And parents wonder why there’s a ref shortage 🙄 clubs STRUGGLE on a weekly basis to get all of these games covered. Be thankful a ref shows up to your kids game at all!!

What's even worse is yelling off sides at a kid ref reffing the younger games when it's not enforced yet and refs are not supposed to call it. You shouldn't be explaining this to parents as you are there to ref but they will be melting down about it

There aren't enough adults signing up to be refs so they need teenagers. If you don't like that, why don't YOU sign up to ref some games each weekend? Especially since you are so good at seeing offsides?

You missed the point that it's practically impossible for a center ref even the most experienced with no AR's to call off-sides adequately. But go on....

So go sign up to be an AR. Then you can call it all day long. If you are just a parent watching a game, button it.

My kids play rec soccer. Thank your daughter for being a referee! They are vital to keeping teams playing on the field.

We've had mostly great refs, occasionally so-so ones. But I would absolutely lose my mind at a parent being rude. In fact, I tell all the parents on the side lines they are not allowed to speak to the refs at all. If they have an issue, talk to the coach and let them handle it.

If there are child refs, parents need to STFU or go sign up to ref games on the weekends too.
