It would be difficult to have a rational conversation with someone who lacks a basic grasp of grammar.

U discriminating
And it’s true. Yes some older people are sharp,‘I’ve met a few. But most I’ve met including my parents are not. And not interesting.

In my country we don't have those gated senior communities where you toss people so you don't have to see them in daily life.

Gated senior communities sound great. Don't let them wander away.

Right? If she is happy why do you care? My mom played cards and Mahjong and talked about current events and books till her decline.

I dunno. There's 70 and there's 70. Aging can look so different on people. There are 80 years olds taking classes, with me, at my gym, who look fantastic and are living life. And there are 80 year olds at the senior center who have been retired for decades and have withdrawn from the world. It all depends.

My 40 something friends all
Talk about the same things my 80 something parents talk about. No real difference. Even the health woes - we all have them. Kids and/ or grandkids. Politics. Money. Sports and hobbies. Tv or movies. Gossip about neighbors and friends. Travel plans. Home and lawn maintenance. Shopping. Restaurants.

Lots of complaining about neighbors, government at all levels is corrupt, that nobody (or no party) thinks illegal immigration is a problem (even now they don't think Trump is doing anything about immigration), ungrateful children, every person they ever worked for because nobody appreciated my parent's brilliance, moron doctors, incompetent churches. Basically, everyone is wrong, my parent is the only sane person on the planet and they've been taken advantage of their whole life. And they wonder why they don't have friends and we don't call more.

My great aunt gets a lot of catalogs and likes to look at those for ideas for Christmas gifts for people.

If they still get the newspaper, things they read in the newspaper (not just news, but other sections like food) is a popular topic. My elderly relatives all get some sort of paper or magazines.

When my grandmother died at 101, she was reading the newspaper cover to cover every day, was especially interested in science news and discussed it with great insight, and had an endless appetite for hearing about the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren (although her hearing was an obstacle, it was not insurmountable).

101 years was not enough, but we sure were lucky to have her that long.

My dad used to refer to his mom and her friends talking about their health problems as "the organ recital." They talked about their kidneys, their livers, all the organs!

So talking about her DD who she just can’t figure out?

“Where did I go wrong with her? Why is she such an anti-social shit-for-brains?”

I am 64 and +1.

The dehumanization of older people on DCUM is shocking.
