There’s a reason so many private school teachers come from or marry into money…
Many of us don’t come from money. Many of us are married, but not necessarily to high earners.
From my perspective, a lot of us take the pay cut because it’s a way to continue doing what we love in a better atmosphere. I never would have remained in public for an entire career, but I can see myself teaching another 15+ years where I am.
And truthfully, a lot of what makes private so great (from my perspective) are things that could be accomplished in public: stronger and more supportive administrations, more planning time, more professional respect, better professional development opportunities. My former public had the opportunity to do all of this and decided not to, hence why so many of us left that school. We grew tired of useless meetings, rude and lazy administrators, and the mistreatment of planning time.
