My colleague was robbed recently and they stole his social security card and birth certificate. Didn't touch other valuables that were visible.

The burglar(s) broke in through a back window and the police think they were efficient and were in and out in about 5 minutes.
They opened every drawer in the main bedroom and dug through the corners of the bedroom closets. The also pulled some drawers in the kitchen and living room where one might keep cash, etc. A policeman said they likely a group that was working our part of Bethesda. I think they later were caught.
We were lucky, nobody was home and we didn't have any guns, drugs or nice booze. The car was not at the house. We lost about $30 in cash and my wife's $600 earrings.
It was a real mess and my spouse and kids were upset for quite a while.

When we were robbed about 7 years ago (they broke into our FCC house in broad daylight), they took only electronics and a coin collection. They clearly looked through everything.

Our burglars stole a laptop. I told spouse not to leave the laptop out but they didn’t listen. Mine was not stolen bc it was hidden.
