Never happened to me in 31 years of living there so I think you can chill

I don't carry a purse at all because it hurts my neck after 12 miles of walking and because of pickpockets.

The bag is perfectly nice and there is nothing wrong with it.
Having strong opinions about a handbag doesn't mean that person is a bad friend. Is a "friend" supposed to lie?
Was the friend actually asked for her opinion, or did she just freely share it? Also, there are better ways to let a friend know you don't like their bag than calling it "cheap-looking."
What other ways? Most of the time these "better ways" are passive-aggressive, like the other poster suggesting saying "what a bright bag!". They were discussing their outfits, maybe this is just their dynamic. We don't know. Evidently a lot of people don't like this bag...
This is going to sound crazy, but you don't have to like everything your friend likes. You're allowed to have your own taste. If OP asked her friend if the bag was good or not, then fine - or if they regularly have a relationship where the friend dresses OP because OP doesn't feel confident enough to dress herself. But just volunteering that you think someone's bag looks cheap? YTA
I may be one of the few people on this board who would respond to "that bag looks cheap" with "you think so? LOL! I guess I'm cheap!" and move on with my day. I would not be offended by the friends comment -- I mean, if she thinks it look cheap and is being honest about it, I can't be mad. I so prefer my friends giving their honest opinion rather than tiptoeing around me and trying not to offend me. I don't take this sort of thing personally -- different strokes and all.
