I think so but all the legal agreements are done separately, my DH and I considered this route but went with an anonymous donor. Currently, we are trying for #2 with our remaining embryos. I think it's really wonderful that there are women willing to go through this process to help couples like us even if they are paid it still is an amazing gift.

I want to be a donor for a friend of mine, will area clinics do known donor cycles?

I did my first donor cycle 3 years ago for my older sister and I did not get paid for it, but having had a easy time of it I chose to donate anonymously at the same clinic. I was matched with one recipient couple and I have no regrets with either donation.

People have positive emotions about business transactions. I am sure that I would feel great gratitude as well. But I have not walked in your shoes or those of a donor so I am officially shutting up now.

I don't think it's just a business transaction. Like many aspects of life, it is a combination commerce and personal decision. As egg recipient, we 'shopped' to make sure we could afford the fee while making sure the clinic did not have any reported violations or bad reputation. We appreciate what the donor did for our family. I sometime think about her when I look at our DC.

pathetic......anyone considering donation......don't do it.....you will regret it later that someone else is raising your child.....and 18 years later, when I helped some very good people who promised to tell their children the truth haven't done so......I got paid nothing except my time and pain.....not like today. Anyone overproducing eggs (for 3 couples) IS being overstimulated and obviously not being told the risks but the risks are SERIOUS...DON'T DO IT......YOU WILL REGRET IT LATER....the money may seem good now but it's not a BUSINESS TRANSACTION....it's a HUMAN LIFE and the baby is YOUR GENETIC CHILD.....think about it!!!

Despite the miraculous nature of the product involved it is and will always be essentially a business transaction. I might like Mr. Jones, with whom I have developed a close relationship, during the decade he has been my plumber, but the fact remains that he does not fix my toilet for free. If it were not about the money then prospective egg donors would be so numerous there would be no need to pay them thousands.

I know a woman who has five kids of her own and was a surrogate for her friend. She was not paid beyond related medical costs. That is a gift motivated by pure altruism. If I were a donor I would charge the highest price I could command, not pretend that this was anything other than a business transaction. To do otherwise, given the risks involved, is ludicrisy.

PP the monitoring appointments in the morning are pretty quick so you can still get to work or school, it's just the day of retrieval and maybe the next day that you need to take it easy.

How long do the monitoring appointments last? Can I do them in the morning then go to school?

The time commitment is about 3 weeks once a cycle is started, you have to be available for daily monitoring and the day of retrieval you have to take off work or find someone to watch your kids. It can take awhile to get picked for a cycle and you have to have tests and be seen by a psychologist.

I never considered being an egg donor until I found out my sister in law is having issues getting pregnant but I think I would be a good donor. My husband and I have 3 kids and I'm 27, very fertile and done building my own family. How involved is the process? I would have to schedule any treatment around my husband and kids schedule but what's the time commitment?

PP it's because I had two kids very easily, got pregnant while on birth control that I feel able to be a good donor for a couple that needs to go this route. Also, I admit that I need the money, but since I already have kids I do not worry that I will ever regret the decision to donate.

God bless for being an egg donor and for you and your husband's service to this country. I cannot even express my feelings in words.

As I mentioned, I felt comfortable knowing that my donor appeared to understand what she was signing up for. But to be honest, I constantly think about how she is going to feel about donating after she has her first child. I care so much about here and want her to have a long happy life.

Could you explain your thinking given that you have 2 kids already?
