YES! They are HOT--selling used for a lot of $$$. If you don't wear yours, put them on Poshmark. Or even Frye will sell them for you. There is a section on their site where they selll used boots.

I hadn't seen them on the website. They're final sale but they're $300. If I was buying for myself I'd totally get them. I have to think about it for my daughter.

Are tall boots back in style? I always wanted tall Frye boots (the Melissa’s) but couldn’t justify the expense. Then they went out of fashion. I’m no fashion plate but it seemed silly to buy super expensive boots that were out of style.

OP, I’m usually against giving into expensive teen whims but this is a quality product, she’s 18, and you can combine your budget and grandparent’s budge towards them. One big gift is often better.

I bought my daughter 2 pairs of Frye boots in MS/HS - she is 23 now and she still has and wears both pairs. I think they are a great investment (better than Golden Goose sneakers for instance). The first pair I bought a half size up because she was so young and she likes to wear them with socks.

OP, as an aside, my DD just texted me yesterday to ask if she could have my old Frye boots. I have had them for at least 15 years, but they are in great shape. I guess they are the “it” shoe at her college right now. I say buy them! Your DD will have them for a long time.

Over the long term buying quality is better value than cheap fast fashion of poor construction.

Give whatever percentage of your present budget you’re comfortable with as “cash towards the Frye boots,” and let her go get them by herself instead of you taking her to get them. She’s 18, I think it’s ok esp bc they’re sturdy boots to wear everywhere. If they were white satin or something I would say absolutely not, but these are practical. Just make sure she knows this is a special, once-every-few-years thing, not the beginning of an unhealthy spending habit.

My first response was NO. Mostly because I don't want this to be a fashion whim. But I might make an exception for this. So I'd give her a credit for the $150 on the birthday shoes that didn't work out. Then add in what you would spend for Christmas, and there you go.

If she doesn't normally ask for ridiculous things, I'm much more likely to give in when a big request does come up. And at least this is something useful that she could re-sell if she falls out of love.

Yes. I bought Frye boots from the 70s from eBay in 2006, I still have them and wear them and love them. These boots will literally last for 100 years if you take care of them.

I'm with this poster. My kids tend to be pretty minimalist, so if there's a single expensive thing they want as a presents, I'm all for it.

I think this fits in with the minimalism -- buy a few good things and use them until they're basically a few molecules of whatever. Then start over.

I bought a pair of fancy boots when I had my first real job, and I wore them until my feet changed size during pregnancy. After the first real job, I went to grad school, and one of my professors (with an endowed chair) had the same boots. They were that fancy. I miss them.

Yes I would get them.

And then spend the equivalent amount on siblings (if any, sorry didn't read the entire thread).

OP from your post it doesn't sound like your daughter is into the "prized teen stuff" in the same way some kids are. Maybe I read it wrong? And based on other posters here (and what I've seen myself for years), Fryes are not just prized by teens, but by a lot of women who have loved them for decades.

I mean, I get what you're saying about teens wanting a ton of expensive things these days - that's certainly a stereotype and for some kids it's true. But the way everyone is reading your OP, your kid wants something high quality because it's the right boot for her today and into the future. Cost per wear and all that jazz.
