I didn't think so. Not even for the more dowdy DC weddings I've been to. 3 or 4 pm is a common wedding time and guests often dress up.

I didn't ask. Maybe the plane fares are less expensive and they were trying to make it more affordable for their out of country guests? They both hail from Mediterranean countries, if that helps with what guests might be wearing. Of course there will also be lots of DC-area guests, so I am probably overthinking that aspect.

Agree nothing sparkly. I don't want to look like I am going to work and don't want to look like I am headed to a nightclub, either. It's hard to find the in-between!

Since you say that there will be tapas, I will assume that the one Mediterranean country is Spain. What about the other? If it is something like Greece or Lebanon, I think you are overestimating how conservative the dress will be. A 4PM wedding will likely still be going strong into the wee morning hours for folks from these countries, and the women do not dress "demurely". There will be sparkle, shine, fierceness. Throw out your notions of "DCUM appropriate" (i.e. boring AF) and have fun!

OP, I think 1, 2, and 3 are all great suggestions. All prior advice was awful.


I like 1 and 2, but feel they are too dressy for 3 in the afternoon.


NP here, like those dresses as well and they would not be overdressed for the 3pm weddings I've been to.
3pm leads into evening, and in the late fall it'll be dark when you're leaving. It's not like 11 am.
