Yes - it's a very safe place to be during a hurricane. Food, power, water, and structurally safe buildings.

This. We were supposed to go this coming weekend. The hurricane will have already passed through, but the area will still be recovering.

Disney will very very likely be fine by Friday. And in fact less crowded due to all the cancellations. People arriving Friday and later should wait and see.

As someone who lives in a hurricane-prone state it blows my mind that anyone would book a vacation to Florida during peak hurricane season and be so clueless they'd make a statement like the above. You really think this wasn't forecasted until Sunday morning?? What planet do you live on?? And because the major hurricane was not formed yet does not mean it was not forecasted. It's not like category 5 hurricanes just pop up, SURPRISE, overnight.

This hurricane has been a potential storm since before Helene even hit. I've watched the models since then.

You need to calm down and actually read. In my OP I said "Looks like it might be going right through Orlando Wed/Thurs.". Obviously there was a forecast but it was not close to what the impacts are forecast now. It was actually still a tropical storm at that point. In my follow-up post that you just quoted, I said that when I wrote the OP, it was not a major hurricane. We also know that Orlando does not typically get hit with the intensity of the coast when a storm comes from the west....obviously! But I also know as pointed out, that Disney only closed for 1 day during Charley. So it was worth seeing what others were doing. If this had been forecast on SUNDAY morning, to be a Cat 5 on Wed, I wouldn't have bothered posting.

Why do you think they won't be 100%? They run their own "city", including sewer systems, power, and storm drains. This is not their first major weather event.

And if anything, it will be less crowded due to cancellations.

We're in a similar situation. Disney is going to close early on Wednesday, and said they will likely be closed on Thursday.

We're due to fly Friday. As of right now, our airline doesn't even allow changes or cancellations for people traveling to Orlando on Friday, only for those traveling on Wednesday and Thursday.

We'll make a decision Thursday evening, based on if Disney and the airlines have decided to operate.

I don't plan on shoving it-because YOU are wrong.

I live in Tampa Bay. Believe me, we knew before Sunday morning that there was a storm coming. Sunday am wasn't 'first word' at all. You have nerve to say others didn't have common sense-but you are the one who didn't check the forecast before you posted!

It will probably be nice weather at Disney this weekend-but the chances of you getting a flight in in time to enjoy it are slim. If you're open to driving, that might work, although presumably people who are currently in traffic right now evacuating would be also driving back here. Also, the rooms at Disney are probably booked, as it is a holiday weekend. But you could try.

My guess is Friday they’ll open. There’s no rain in the forecast at all for Orlando on Friday or beyond.
