PP here. I understand that, but there’s a weirdly cultish form of denial that has taken over Democrats. I see it IRL too, because I was a diehard Obama and Hillary stan and most of my friends are still ultra liberal. A lot of them have become every bit as lockstep, ultra partisan, and uncritical in their thinking as the Tea Party nuts turned MAGA we used to mock.

The Democrat version of cult thinking though comes with believing that every current or former Democrat who claims to dislike what the Democratic Party is doing must be a Russian bot or a far-right, Nazi-sympathizing, white nationalist troll stirring things up. It’s like they’ll spontaneously combust if they allow themselves to understand that reasonable, smart, thoughtful liberals can disagree with the party line and not be far right lunatics pretending in order to sow division. And smart “BIPOCs” who disagree? Omg, we definitely cannot exist. We’re against the laws of Physics. It’s such pompous, delusional thinking, and it’s also self-defeating because you cannot convince those who you refuse to admit even exist.

DH has always been a Republican. I was a Dem and switched to R in 2000. Both voting Trump again this year. When I was a D we had a few squabbles during election seasons but nothing serious.

DH’s side of the extended family is very vocally R- some can be very obnoxious and it has always been annoying. But everyone tolerates each other. I suspect some of the married-ins may be D but they keep quiet. My side is the extended family is very mixed and everyone behaves & gets along at family gatherings.

Our friends are very mixed and politics has not been an issue.

We have 3 teens who are not yet of voting age. Will support the family relationships over any political views, whatever they choose.

Some of you guys are crazy. Family is more important than politics. I do hide some people on social media but aside from that: family first.

I'm the moderate RINO. I think this type of attitude is just as destructive as the MAGA/Freedom Caucus attitude. There are plenty of caring and ethical people that are Republican. While there are more Republicans that fit your description, there are no shortage of Democrats that also fit the bill. So, while good people have a moral high ground, neither of our political parties really do.

Stop with the both sides crap. The GOP has swung so far right that embracing racism, misogyny, homophobia and xenophobia are celebrated and the policies are hurting real people. Women are dying and being medically evacuated from red abortion ban states. LGBTQ kids, yes kids, are being attacked in red states. Voter suppression is rampant in red areas. The GOP is vowing to purge immigrants.

The position that you, yourself don’t support any of that but you FAIL to stand up and vote against it puts you as just as culpable as rabid MAGAs. The greatest evil flourishes when ‘ good ‘people do nothing.
