Northeastern has an Oakland campus and bought that small Manhattan college.

That is a terrible idea for Michigan. My state tax dollars to fund a CA school.

I don't think Vanderbilt entirely knows what they're going to do with the Chelsea property. They already have plans to establish a business and tech campus in West Palm Beach. I think everything is in the planning stage.

It's an interesting approach though. It makes sense for Vanderbilt to explore possibilities in different hubs. At the very least, it adds something more to the college experience when you can take classes in NYC with the added connections, internships, experiences, and so on. I think a good percentage of graduates end up in NYC anyway. But I don't think even Vanderbilt knows exactly what they're doing at this point. They're starting with the property, and I guess we'll see what they come up with. I do get the sense that it will be undergrad focused though.

Colleges that maximize their exposure and their revenue, especially the selective private colleges, makes too much sense. Watch other colleges start copying this formula.

Yes, and its focus is on journalism and media, which is sorely needed in that region, and has an additional focus on serving students from "The Global South". The Northwestern Qatar campus has excellent synergy with Al Jazeera, for example, and is probably the only satellite campus anywhere that has produced Rhodes scholars.

Qatar has a very vibrant media scene. Al Jazeera has many opportunities for hands-on experience for Northwestern students to learn about news gathering.

Of course, satellite campuses for other universities all have good purposes and utility. Nothing special about Qatar.
