What is a "deep" Catholic holiday?

It’s absolutely okay as long as you’re inclusive and use it for general education and awareness not to force a particular religion or belief on anyone.

The BOE recognizes lots of the heritage months and several diversity days. It’s top of the agenda.

Last I checked Social Studies/History are core subjects. Additionally, we want our kids to engage in normal social and emotional learning which occurs when you take the time to learn about other cultures, their history and contributions, and traditions. Moreover it reminds us all of the central tenet of us all being human.

There's a fiesta in DC over the weekend where folks can get banned books:

[In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Visit Philadelphia tourism agency will bring its acclaimed banned books activation to D.C. on Sept. 28-29. The Little Free(dom) Library will have 2,000 free books that will be distributed at a walk-in version of the activation.
...
Featured titles by Hispanic authors include:
“Tito Puente, Mambo King” by Monica Brown
“How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents” by Julia Alvarez
“An African American and Latinx History of the United States” by Paul Ortiz
“The House on Mango Street” by Sandra Cisneros]

Native American Hertiage month occurs in November.

It does? At school? Which schools celebrate?

Yes it does. Any school or classroom that wants to celebrate. Talk to your school and/or PTA about including more heritage month related activities or just meaningful diversity related things. Or, this could be something you offer to help them with. It’s truly beneficial for all.

There are signs in Spanish everywhere in MoCo. We are all living the culture each day just by living in the county. It is no longer a minority.

The school system gets to highlight how it celebrates diversity and that draws attention away from our abysmal proficiency rates.

It's a win-win for everyone involved.

Such a stupid argument. It doesn't have to be either/or. In one my kid's math problems, Ms. Tran gave 6 neighbors 6 mooncakes each, how many mooncakes did Ms. Tran make in total? It's the reality of the world now. It's no longer white and Eurocentric.

DP. If "it's no longer white and ..." as you say, shouldn't the schools be celebrating the white and Eurocentric culture if that is the minority group?

Haha good one. One month doesn't make up for centuries of oppression.
