Growing up, my family had “quiet time” for like an hour every Sunday afternoon and it was just part of our family routine. My siblings and I would read, watch TV, draw, or nap in our rooms. At some point I became generally aware of what my parents were up to during “quiet time” and just tried not to think about it!

Exactly. My kids are like ghosts. If we ever went to the basement they would be like, “what are you doing down here?!? When are you coming upstairs?!?” The last family vacation we took we waited until 3am in another bedroom and my son still woke up and asked “why mom is crying.” Nightmare scenario. I guess I need to feel some relaxation and not utter dread that I’m going to be walked in on any second. It ruins it for me. Especially when there are no quickies for a husband on SSRIs. It’s a whole performance just to get him to finish.

The fact that only 3 people have suggested turning the tv or devices on in this whole thread.... sheds so much insight on why dcum is filled with people in s-xless marriages.
If you are confining yourself to doing it before they wake up or after they are asleep.... no wonder no one wants to do it. You all are being martyrs, and the thing that is dying is.... your marriage.

Another thing people do that is no longer an option for you is only have as many kids as allows you to still have a reasonable amount of privacy in your home. You filled up your house with people and now that those people are older you're like "wait I have no privacy." Well some of us thought about that before having another kid. Sorry.

Why do you think people choose to have fewer kids? This is as good a reason as any -- I'd rather have an only and some privacy and a functional sex life than 3 kids and have to take a 20 year break from sex because I worry someone will walk in on me.
It does seem weird. I can’t imagine if my sister and brothers and nieces and nephews were never born because my parents wanted more privacy during sex.

Wait until they are teens - it's much more difficult because they go to bed so late! As others have said, we often do it in the mornings after they leave for school or in the summer before they wake up.

Another vote for afternoon at a local hotel - your kids are old enough to be by themselves so no babysitter needed. We had a standing Saturday or Sunday "errands" date that was a trip to local hotel. Worked great. And, you earn a LOT of hotel points this way!

I walked in on my parents when I was around 12. I learned to give them space after that. Just saying.
