This year their theme is “Building a Community of Trust.” At the convocation, the university president acknowledged differences, but noted that a scholarly community can’t stop there. Students and faculty owe it to each other to build a trusting environment where differences can be meaningfully and rigorously discussed without polarizing the community. Our country would be better off if we all did the same. Sounds like common sense.
Kind of strange that you would be this immersed in your college student’s daily life.
DP but my kid's college (not Davidson) invited parents to the president's welcome along with students and then had an afternoon of parent programming separate from students. Sorry yours doesn't do this, but it's not abnormal.
+1 not abnormal
Davidson is an excellent school. It is not overinvolved as a parent to know the dialogue coming from the deans and presidents: many top schools have president remarks to parents and students at move in, and many send daily emails with updates about campus, including important dean or president statements. Why wouldn’t a parent know want to know?
