Boys hang out with their other male friends in hoco all the time. You don't need to have a date. Bringing sister is weird in my view...

I think the student association is just a bunch of boring brainiacs that want it on their college resume but don't care to do anything for the school.
My friends kid (white) goes to Wootton, she told me that since most of the school population is Chinese, and their “parents won’t allow them go to dances or do anything fun (they have to be studying all the time apparently)”, the attendance for past hoco dances were ridiculously low and the school was not making any money and it wasn’t worth the effort/cost. So they decided to all together cancel the dance.

Whitman doesn't have one either and it's a very white school white person.
Exactly, there's a difference between the W school in Bethesda and in Potomac.
Wootton and Churchill hold more Asian students than WJ or Whitman.
Yah Wootton isn’t a W and has never been. It is no more one than Wheaton is. It’s cute you think it but only people who have lived in Rockville think like that
Anonymous wrote:Many MCPS kids get dressed up for a dance but then don’t go. Instead they go to DC for photos, out to dinner and then after party. Even if no alcohol, this is what they do. At my kids school (not a W school), the kids go to the actual dance only 9th and 10th.
But after that they still do the posters and hoco dresses and suits. Just don’t go to the dance. It is sad they don’t go to the dance.

which school?
This sounds like Whitman. A Friday night carnival like event after the game but no dance

I have no idea of the attendance but I do think it’s unfair to criticize the kids who plan it. If kids want w change, they should get involved. Either way, based on my FB feed, lots of kids still get dressed up at Wootton as though there is a dance.
Do they also go to DC to the monuments?
Anonymous wrote:My Blair kids went to fish market in DC with a group of friends (like 20 kids). I’ve seen Wootton kids in Rio during hoco weekends (happened to see their parents who need to drive the kids). So I guess kids who care hoco will find their ways to celebrate anyway.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Nobody goes to Churchill's dance but we do have one. Just not well-attended. Kind of sad. Hoco was a big deal when I was growing up. now kids like getting dressed up for photos but skip the dance
When schools moved to hire much cheaper DJ’s instead of live bands in the 00s, that’s when the interest level began to wane. Now there are no local bands left that market themselves for high school dances. It’s different in California, especially in Southern Calif, but in this area, dances have hit rock bottom.
